    Inspiring thread!

This is referenced from a photo, but without eyedropping colors. I'm not happy with the specular highlight. Why does it look so painted on? Also just realized shadow is off.

Haven't done this in a long time. This thread rocks.

A peach, but I'm having trouble with communicating the peachness. Next time, I will post the process too!

Thanks everyone for your wonderful fruits and comments.

    Tomato!

Did another quick one. This is getting addictive...

Full disclosure: I used the pen tool to round out the edges.

    I've tried out some apples!

It's very addictive! I've used a flat color for the base then i've used a "soft" brush for lightning.

anyone still around that could help out a newbie with some helpful tips? this is just my second tablet sketch ever, could really use help...

I realize, looking at all the stages, where I went wrong:

    - should've used a bigger canvas (this is about 80%) of what I used
    - my sketch wasn't quite right (the bottom should've been flatter)
    - maybe the color choices should've been bolder? the dark red should've been darker, etc
    - not enough details at the end?

    here are my steps:

reference (I didn't have any pretty ones at home )

If anyone is willing to help, can you tell me how to keep my paintings from looking so muddy? If you can't tell, my biggest issue right now is finding the right colors. I can't even choose colors properly for the "fill" step. If anyone could offer any links that will help me find the right color in photoshop, it would be greatly appreciated.

These are my first Photoshop paintings ever (aside from two earlier ones I probably never posted) over the past few days. I hope I keep on improving. I'm starting to take all of my work more seriously now.

Hi! 3rd digital paint so far, and first with a wacom . Still a lot to learn, really nice apples and other stuff so far. Keep posting people!

Done with ArtRage, hope you don't mind! Shadows and details could be a bit better...any comment will be most welcomed.

Im still in the process of making this (being my first) i been looking through everyones work and still in a learning phase, but what are some suggestions on how to improve this, and to add the really small details like the darker dots that pears have.

things i know i have to work on:
-smoothing the outside of the pear, work on the right side of the pear on the
    -beginning of the stem
    -defining the shades more

    assistance requested

    Hello everyone,

Thanks for a wonderful, inspiring thread. The attached is a word in process trying to follow the same steps that alot of people here use. I start with a black and white sketch, and then add rough blocks in color. I'm about half done with blending, using a simple circular brush with varying levels of opacity.

I really love all of the details people are adding on their still lifes, and especially the specular sheen. I would love to see more details, and especially have access to the brushes used. Thank you in advance for any help.
