Creepy indeed. Using your conceptual knowledge of the figure well. I'm curious if there's any story/significance behind these latest ones?

awesome stuff here, i'm diggin all your pencils a lot. i think you just need to continue brushing up on your anatomy and perspective, other than that just keep up the good work.

Thanks guys, well I'm getting into oil painting. So far I've been doing quite a bit of color swatches and pallete studies. I'll take a pic of those when they are near completion, and not dark outside Here is a quick figure study I did in a monocromatic way.

Hey guys, I'm back! I've been inspired to dip into oils recently, so that's what I've been concentrating on for the most part. Reading Schmid's books and getting tips from a good painter. First, here are some of the usual charcoals:

I'm going to be sticking to monochrome studies for a while, getting a feel for the brushes and focusing on values before I dive into color:

Thanks Micheal, I hope by interesting you mean I'm on the right track
Another oil done today, starting to add some burnt sienna in there along with my trusty burnt umber and ivory black. No opaque whites, just turpentine. Mmmmm, turp.

Howdy, well yesterday I messed around with oils a bit more and completed a SP(my previous self-portrait was really starting to freak me out). I discovered a few things during the process, mainly dealing with how malleable oils can be. I'm also starting to feel more confident by just staying loose and putting something down on the canvas, that way I'll have something to judge against and a foundation to work upon.

Yo. Difficulties in value judgments, keeping teh darks dark and the lights light, but another lesson learned. Oh, and it's a chick that I failed at the likeness.

Ahoy there, these three pieces are from today's figurative session. Some one minute gestures(the more defined one was just a figure from my mind that I drew out before the session began), followed by two one hour poses. I'm wanting to break away from my over use of line, and rely more on value shapes.
I'm also starting to think about what I actually want to draw, out of all that is before me,being able to pick and choose.

Hey, nice self-portrait. The core shadow running down the side really helps turn the form.

Tmbritton Thanks Tom, I'm happy that that shadow reads well.
S.C.P. Thanks man, hopefully they will begin to pay off when I get into color.

Here is a little color study of an apple I painted today. I did learn some new things about color mixing, and hopefully that knowledge will carry over for tomorrows next attempt. I'm having trouble controlling the darks, with the brush strokes reflecting the light. Man, alizarin crimson is really transparent. Please excuse the glare on the canvas.

Well my last oil painting didn't go so well. Got frustrated and did a charcoal portrait instead of continuing to mess up the paint:/

Damn dude. You have been blazing along with your work! On the last two it seems you elongated the skull more than it should or was that a stylistic choice?

    Keep up the great work!

Kaffinated Thanks for the crit bro, nah I didn't intentionally want to elongate their heads, just a failure to record what I was seeing. I'll keep that in mind for the next batch.

Something before bed, playing around with the element of line. Not much else to say:/

Dude, even your paintings of fruit reek of style. That slight drippiness you have in the shadow and the border makes it look like a bit more than a study. I think that you did well with the colors and form as well.

Nice updates ,colour in oils looks o.k to me.
Do you stretch your own canvas's and prime them yourself? Your primer can affect reflected light heaps.

Really trying to think in masses of values instead of line, in which I use for accents and such.

Your commitment to these head studies makes me look like a total slacker. Awesome work and very tangible progress and improvement.

It's been a while since you posted any non-study work. Let's see it!

Thanks guys, to tell you the truth I've just been doing studies and not feeling
confident enough to take on a well thought out composition. I picked up
a Rockwell book and it's pretty inspiring, I'll come up with something soon.
Another messing around with the portrait, it's pretty amazing how colors mix.
