Scarecrow's Sketchbook - Learning to draw and paint again, publicly!

Well, I've been lurking here for about two years now, my mouth gaping in awe. I thought it was high time I had an art dump. Some of these pieces are old and some are very, very old (like 10 years old) but there are some more recent pieces too and I'm hoping to keep adding stuff as I go now as I'm trying to re-learn drawing and painting having eschewed it in recent years for 3D modelling and texturing (it being my profession and all).

First off here's a random selection of bits and pieces:

Lieutenant vash. Another lunchtime speedpaint exercise:

Scarecrow's Sketchbook - Learning to draw and paint again, publicly!

4th Doctor, Tom Baker performing a walk cycle. My first bash at hand animation:

Scarecrow's Sketchbook - Learning to draw and paint again, publicly!

An old, unused concept for a bike in Extreme-G 4 (XGRA)

Scarecrow's Sketchbook - Learning to draw and paint again, publicly!

and finally two unused concepts for a now defunct project in work:

Scarecrow's Sketchbook - Learning to draw and paint again, publicly!

Next is some stuff related to the Traveller Roleplaying game. Most of my work for Traveller tends to be 3D but these are some samples of my 2D work from over the years:

Next is some Star Wars related stuff.

These really are finished pieces but there's a lot wrong with them so I don't feel they are of sufficient quality to ut in the 'It's Finished' forum so I'll dump them here:

My favourite piece I've ever done, i think (which is a bit sad considering it's about 4 years old)

And finally for now... Some fantasy stuff. Mainly D&D character portraits - either of my own characters or of requests on EN World - and just some pieces of whimsy:

And finally, at least for a while - here's a couple of Doctor WHO redesigns I did recently as part of a fun thread on Outpost Gallifrey:

Don-key - Thanks. Where am I going? Well, nowhere professionally. I'm quite happy where I am. However I set out twenty years ago to be an illustrator but a great many things (3D modelling mainly) have distracted me over the years and I'm severely rusty. My aim is to be better. I don't think I'm bad at the moment, but I know I can be much better. I think my work at the moment is unremarkable - attested to by the fact that nobody aside from yourself has commented. I want to change that - prefferably for the better.

Hey Scarecrow, nice start here, lots of variety. Theres some really nice stuff here, the last two renderings in post #5, that bike from extreme g, a few of those paintings are looking pretty solid too. Its a good start!

As for wondering about comments, remember to get involved in this community(there are many ways!), it helps. Venture out from your own sb, comment on other peoples stuff, offer your opinions and critiques, and you will get help in return always. Ciao.

Legend tells of the Money King and how he could take hairs from his chest and from them produce a thousand monkeys, all equally skilled in the art of fighting!

Something I did for a character portrait request on ENWorld over the last couple of lunchtimes. It's a Tiefling Fighter, Tieflings being a sort of playable demon race from 4th Edition.
I enjoyed this one to start with, but after a while it started getting away from me so I decided to quite whilst I was ahead.

you have some good paints, but you need to work on your anatomy and structure.
But all in all good stuff.

    Cheers, HN.

Yeah, part of the point of these is to see where my weaknesses are and address them. Anatomy is my biggest weakness I think, so I'm working on that most of all.

Gonzossm - that's a Vargr. Dog people from the Traveller RPG circa 1977 so they predate Starfox by a few years. That said, I can see what you mean

There is really no such thing as weak or strong points, just a lack of knowledge in any given area. Don't start painting your drawing until you have a good foundation,
it's like building a house starting with the roof first.
