    The7Sketchbook7 ... Kid-Deadpool Challenge!.. just started - join us! :D

Welcome to my sketchbook! Please comment and let me know what you think!

A little about me - I've been working as a freelance illustrator, designer and animator for over 14years now (finished college at age 19 straight into starting up my own business as a self employed artist - I must have been mad!)

Mostly illustrating publications for children and developing my comic art and concept art skills - constructive crits and suggestions are welcome

I'm an artist because I love art - not just cartoon stuff! Cartooning is my main style simply because well... it's just me! I remember as a young kid looking at calvin&hobbs and garfield books and all those kind of cool cartoon artworks and deciding 'one day I want to do that'. I loved the life, energy and expression it has - it's taken many years of hard work and persistence, but now I'm able to earn my living from it! Most of this sketchbook presently has my comic art (yes I know - lots of Spiderman lol!) and other doodles and sketches rather than my more cartoony stuff, but I just can't help it showing through sometimes (ok, ok - most of the time!) - hope you enjoy

    -------------------------------
You know the drill: For more recent work please check out the later pages - you'll also find a small selection of newer art in the 2nd post

So do you work with marvel or something? Anyway this stuff is nice, even though honestly I prefer classic looking spiderman.

Hey everyone - a random cowboy dude - please let me know what you think of my work - I'll try to upload a good range of my most recent art over the next week. After that I'll do my best to upload new stuff reasonably regular

    Hmmmmm

You are now doubly the hero you once were with your drawings of Spidey. Your drawing of that new dude with the fire around him has a great design, but he's a little static in his standing posture. You might try giving him more action in his pose, or maybe more authority. Another thing that would be cool is if you played with the lighting more, like, limit yourself to 2 light sources at most. you kinda have an omni light that's goin' on, plus the reflections of the fife and ... moon, maybe? In saying this, I know it's still a sketch, but it would be cool to play with it more. The cowboy almost looks like Chuck Norris if you put on a mustache and gave him a hairy chest...awesome. like your style.

Hey thanks Sage - I really enjoyed doing those Spidey pics!

The Dude with the fire was a joint mucking around sketch with my younger bro - I sketched out a figure to roughly demonstrate how I draw muscles, then my younger bro had a quick go at inking it up with some cooler details, then I scanned it into PS to give him a demo of CGing... and yes waaay too much lighting lol! If you'd like to have a go at developing the character please feel free! Also if you'd like a higher res version of the original sketch just let me know - You got some skills going on with colour and form yourself so I'd be interested to see what you'd do with it

Lol yeh, never watched chuck in action but from pics I've seen my cowboy dude does bare a certain resemblance!

Thanks for commenting Sage - will return the favour now!

Adobe CS3 suite but my main programs are Illustrator and Photoshop from that and I use a wacom intuos2 A5 tablet - the first Spidey pic was inked totally in illustrator and colour in photoshop.

As our un-named hero jumps into stealth mode, the sun blazes down illuminating his path. He looks up, and realizes, HE'S GONNA FALL OVER!

hehe, I like these. The last one shows movement because he looks unbalanced. It's like he's gonna be moving soon. Good deal.

On the self hulk portrait, those are some big muscles there, 'cept your pecs. You need bigger pecs.

    Keep truckin'!

    Comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like your MINI! Good perspective. I would like just a little bit more detail in the background, even though the focus is the car.

Also, where did you come up with the idea for that biped robot? Is that your design or is it based on something else? Me likes. "He" looks just a little off balance. Almost like he has to dig into the ground to not fall backwards. Not too noticeable though. Sorry, that's something my teachers have been me on for a while. Cool stuff.

sorry dude - life is kinda super tough right now so drawing for pleasure is proving difficult due to stress etc I just gotta grind through this situation - I will be back!! meanwhile I will do my best to at least post something!

Really appreciate you checking up on me - thanks buddy!

P.S. yes the robot biped thingy was my own design - random idea - and yes it would fall over lol! thanks about the mini - that was drawn years ago without ref with pencil on cheap paper - one of my 1st colouring pics on a computer lol I was pretty chuffed with how it came out

I like the kind of direction your heading-I would say that it may help you to look at the line weights and style your using, it can really help to know exactly when to use a thicker line, and a thinner (to emphasise shadowed/light edges of forms for example). You mentioned you use illustrator to do some stuff, but it may well help the dynamism of your work to use the photoshop pen and get some nice thin-thick lines on the go-if you haven't checked him out (and I'm sure you have) look at how Skottie young does his lines, really study why he uses the lines he does and try to carry it over to your stuff-may well help. Anyhoo keep it up...I think my favorite is the background with the fish-eye effect
