A damn fine title--9/15/08
hopefully having this thread will produce some good "stuff" and after a while I might even pop put some real artwork. anywho it'll be fun to watch the progress and I'll try to keep you updated. but first I need to figure out this dang scanner thing, the Multi PASS F30, for the time being it's going to be my weapon of choice... just give me a minute or two to load the sucker up.

well... the scanner stinks and I ended up taking photos *checks for heavy falling objects* the lighting had them coming out all grey so I tried to fix that in photoshop without getting tons of noise... again sorry.

nice work...love the skateboarder guy..like the pose and what not
blah blah blah and such and such
September 19th, 2007 #4
thanks I did that from a photo of erik lundberg, I found it fun to draw downhill skateboarding because you can easily find lots of different poses, its also kinda a way to study up on the sport when the sun goes down... or at least it feels like it.
I've got to fix the picture below it I think the lady's arm is a bit short (right arm), but yeah so I'll try to get some more stuff up tonight.

I tried to do a portrait of my art teacher, it was out of my head and I know it doesn't look like him but I think if you had the picture and walked into a room of 20 people him included you could figure out who he was!
anyway I might update later tonight depending on how much I do...

I really got to stop doing the "my is open as far as it can go look in my pictures"
September 21st, 2007 #8
1- picture I stared in study hall and worked on as the day progressed, got a bit frustrated with how it was looking so I Wes Burted the arms and most probably created tons of anatomical incorrectness in the process... head is to small even after redoing it... 6 TIMES!!!!!!!!!!
2- an update on a picture from above, the real tones of the graphite weren't getting picked up on the scanner so try to believe me when I say it doesn't actually look that way.
I was going to put a a another sketch I started in my sketch book but it doesn't fit on the scanner and I'm not mentally fit for a scanner setup at the moment.
any tips on what I could be doing to fix some of my problems?
almost forgot, I did a some fixing of that lady in the poncho
September 22nd, 2007 #9
two bird guys? just messing around with pens basically, ballpoints and a sharpie.
I couldn't get a good photo of the poncho lady so I'm sorry.
bird men, longboarding... maybe I should try combining them?

Hey man! Good start to your sb!
I like this one alot, it has a good atmosphere
Keep on sketching and show us the progress!
November 8th, 2007 #11
Nikoh- Thanks, but I think the atmosphere your referring to might just be caused by using a camera to capture my sketchbook
sorry I haven't updated in sooooooooo long! I made a bunch of stuff that really sucks and some that was okay while I was gone. It's not like I took a break from drawing, I just didn't really make anything I felt was worth posting that much.
and I suppose I'm a bit of a jerk for posting even this because I still can't update you on any of my sketchbook because my teacher has it. he's using them as a factor for our grades this quarter to make sure you do stuff outside of class. so I hope that will pull my grade up a bit since my hand has been bleeding suck fests out all over anything I touch in that class. in my opinion anyway.
I'll put some stuff up when I get my stuffs back.
November 12th, 2007 #12
a sketch I started last night and finished today, so far its the only thing I have with me that was worth scanning.
November 12th, 2007 #13
I guess I could put this up also. I used a reference from an oil painting I saw in the FINE ARTS, STUDY, & DISCOVERY section. the guy was an amazing painter so I drew (or tried draw) one of them.
and I guess theres crap on my scanner... little black bits of stuff. should I be scanning in color or in grey scale?

Really digging your latest post, I tihnk it's a great drawing. Some of your other drawings seem to lack proper reference a little, but they all show a good sense of design and an interesting way of thinking. I like some of the interesting poses you've got going...good start to the sketchbook!

you're well on your way to being a great pencil artist - you obviously know how to use it well. i'd say focus on anatomy and underlying form. you have a good grasp of composition and value, now you just need the structure to support it. my fave is definitely the indian girl - great texture. keep going!!

alright, I've got more scanning to do but I'll do that tomorrow, it's late and I'm sleepy. um, I'm sorry for how much of a bum I am for not updating in half a year. sorry.
the first drawing was done in Alabama while I was visiting some family, without a ref. I think I just felt like drawing sumthin.
the second picture was also done in Alabama while I was at the Sheraton hotel in downtown Birmingham, there was some sort of convention or something but it attracted many a bizarre fashion. I was listening to music and just illustrating the lyrics if you've ever done that.
the third is the left half of a spread I did. bunch of random things all in the same place, didn't use a ref on the girl.
fourth is the other side of the above.
the fifth I did about 3 days ago and that is for a portfolio I'm doing for AP studio art, it was character designed based in the post apocalyptic genre

no i photograph them, cause scanning always screws up the brightness levels of the drawing, and if ur gonna scan try first adjusting the levels in ur scanning program before u scan.

alright, photographed some drawings and get them all sized for uploading.
and some little descriptions:
1- got this idea to to a draw these two assasins, they'll be in a crowd so I'm yet to draw the others in.
2- a little suped up treefort I drew in while I was in Pennsylvania
3-a line drawing I shaded in one night hoping to pass it off for more work than it actually was in art class. hehe...
4-a drawing in colored pencil, charcoal, and pencil on a piece of of a corrugated cardboard.
5- alright, first off I stole the idea for this guy suit from kresh (check his stuff out!), to he was the one that did all the hard work I just thought it looked too not have some enjoyment by redrawing his design. anyways, the helmet is mine.
6- already posted the picture this is just a better version of it, well, it came across better than when I scanned it.
7- a guy cleaning up his gun and some people drinking- thats it...
8- a zoom on the faces of the two at the table.
9- a zoom on the man sitting.
10- a picture I drew around the same time as the treefort but I think I was back in new york by that time. it's a gut at a hotel or something and he's pretty tired from whatever distance of hiking it took to get where hes at.
11- this was drawn at about the same time as the one above, got some inspiration from a picture of marko's.
12- a detail on the hobo in the picture above
13- my shot at a face drawn by marko, I screwed around but he was the one that did all the hard work.
so yeah, I hope the images work.

hey, great update! Love the last Potrait.
I think your stuff is pretty solid, but lacks anatomy and values sometimes( *haha* like mine ).
Anyways, I like the "scenes" in which you put the figures in, like in that one "http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=361323&stc=1&d=1209864 318".
Keep Updating .
(and thanks ALOT for posting in my sb)

thanks for the encouraging words Pencil1, I'll get some stuff up tonight. now that I've finished with my portfolio for art class I can get back to improving anatomy and doing studies and studies of the stuff. having to keep up with class kinda kept me away from that. and yes I am working on learning not to be afraid of value. trust me...

well, I took longer than expected. sorry, the daytime got away from me faster than I expected. well... here some stuff from my sketch book, it pretty much in chronological order except for a few mess-ups like the last one and the head talking about Loomis, they were don earlier on. the guy with the gas masks came right before the guy with the happy/sad nipples, and the Talking head came right before the guy with the censored butt. hopefully I'll figure this photography thing out soon.
oh, if anything seems a bit thin on the very left of the page that might be from the curve of my book.
iambanana- thanks for the compliments, your sketchbook is fine indeed.

sorry guys... I'm so damn lazy... at posting anyways
A design I did for a friend, done with alchemy and photoshop. it was for a T-shirt so I didn't really pump any effort into creating and environment or negative space to it. tah-dah!
Dannelf- thanks for dropping by and taking the time to post! I'm glad you liked my work!
tokotewhero- that guy is low riding fo sho! yeah, I've got issues with anatomy, but I'm working them out with every drawing I do so hopefully things will look a bit less... low ridingish? what evs.... a word that means what I did! thanks for the compliments though! I need all the fuel I can get!
