Giorge - thanks for the comments, I definitely would love to get more life drawing in. Now that I just got a car again, I should be able to attend sessions more! Yay!
Localfatheaded - thank you!
I have one more portrait to add today, I like this one for some reason - maybe because it is more loose, maybe I am just tired. Who knows. Thoughts and comments are appreciated.
my friend/fellow artist "Omnicon"
final piece on illustration board, 6" x 6"
puck - thank you!! i really like that one too. I just kind of like the smirk going on
One more for today - sent in by a website viewer !
"Crystal" (rough line work)
"Crystal" - india ink and white acrylic on illustration board, 6" x 6"
Annndd I may have an art show preview update thing coming up later if I can upload enough things !
Here's the few I have today, sent in by my friend Mindee, and her friend Sara (Shinesfresh) ... and if I'm feeling fiesty I may upload a few more later.
"mindee and jason (lines)
"mindee and jason" - final
"shinesfresh" rough lines
...to be continued...
I also joined up on TWITTER today... so if you tweet, follow me - @jskaphobe
I really like your style! It has an appealing roughness to it.
mischevious - Thanks! I usually DO work in color, but these are just quickies. I'll have some color stuff to post soon
Today I wasn't going to post because I had SO MUCH other stuff to do, but once I sat down to do this I had to finish. Today's portrait is of my roomie Lisa!
rough sketch - mechanical pencil on hot press illustration board ,6" x 6"
"Lisa" - india ink and liquid white acrylic on hot press illustration board, 6" x 6"
Unfortunately I won't have time to post tomorrow because I'm in 2 art shows, but if you're in Vegas and you check out First Friday - say hello to me! I'll probably be toting these portraits along.
I'll be hanging a piece @ the BIGGS Studio for the Twisted Fairytales show, and also be showing along side Crystal Taylor (of Retina Confection) @ Gargoyle's Damnation Studios - which is inside Commerce Street Studios! Hope to see you there!
Ok so I decided to do my friend Lisa again because the first one I did of her didn't really feel like it was "her" to me... It was on the 2nd day I started doing them - anyways, I like this one MUCH better...
Today's portrait is of my sister Angela!
I posted more progress scans in my other thread here ... so if you want to see those, check them out there...
I may just stop posting these in this thread all together, not getting much traffic here :o
I'm still really enjoying all of the portraits. The proportions look a bit off on "Angela" though (chin too small, nose too long). "Mindee and Jason" is great, and I like the facial expressions of "Shinesfresh" and "Luis Ferrnando Camacho". You've got some cool blues in there and I wouldn't mind seeing some warmish hues to offset them in areas (light sepia washes maybe?), though I've got no idea about the restrictions of the media (there's always photoshop I guess).
Puck - thanks! Yeah I find myself getting bored with the restrictions already actually haha. I will probably be moving on to color or different media soon...
Today's portrait is of "King James" - a friend of a friend who sent me his face to use! I didn't get a chance to scan the line work, and I didn't use acrylic on this one either. I actually like this one without it. I think the values are ok enough to stand on their own in the first pass...
"King James" - india ink on hot press illustration board, 6" x 6"
Lemme know what you think
I had a busy weekend and have to upload 4 portraits today! So here are the first 2 - one of my friend Joy, and another of Chris who kindly sent me his face to use...
Today's portrait is of my friend Kate
I'll probably be taking a break from these and posting sketches for my portfolio pieces for SDCC soon. Hoping to make my way there this year, I didn't get to go last year
Its been a while, hasn't it?
A lot of stuff has happened - to sum it up, I've moved into my own apartment/studio, I've been working full time as an art framer, and I'm still getting my illustration/fine art career off the ground. I've been working my ASS off.
But that's not really why I'm posting. Because of International Portrait Month, and the El Coro download, I've been inspired to attempt doing traditional oil portraits. I'll be posting in that thread and this one as well. I'm hoping to post one a day.
So here's the first one: me!
This is seriously the first traditional oil portrait I've attempted in YEARS. I have a lot of work to go!!
I like the start of these portraits.
Thanks guys!! I'm hoping to upload a few more later tonight. Busy with day job and other work crap!
Got a few people to send me their pictures so I have about 15 so far. I'm hoping to catch up by the end of the month and have one completed for each day. Sooo if anyone reading this wants their portrait done, send me a jpeg to firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll give you cred and a link to your website/blog (if you have one!)
Nice portraits. I really like the way you shape your faces.
