    Bill Murray progress

Kvick - yeah I am mostly working from photographic reference. Getting someone to sit for me is... hard haha. Maybe I need to bribe them with candy or something Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I have soem progress shots of the conceptual portrait I'm doing on Bill Murray - removed the hand because it just looked weird sitting there on the bottom of the panel like that... I like it much better now, and hopefully his ghostly and saintly appearance still comes across. (Should be more apparent when I color it!)

knocked back the black with some toned gesso, re-established whites with acrylic and emphasized the key areas with a dark grey

    new portrait commission!

Thought I'd add this up here while I had the chance... my friend Kassy commissioned me to do an alla prima portrait of her son. So she hung out with me while I painted him this afternoon!

This piece took about 3 hours from initial sketch to finish... and she happily took her wet painting home

More to come... I have 4 other commissioned portraits to work through today. (Which means I will be drinking lots of coffee.)

    Digital Portrait Study

Hey guys! I didn't realize I had responses here - my email notifications must be wonky.

    Beelow - thanks man!
    Loathsome - thank you!
Darsy - thank you! I have another one to post tonight ;D
    zerdron - thanks!

I have yet another portrait study, this time digital because i've been neglecting my wacom. I've been doing a lot of traditional media lately because of commissions (not complaining!) but I missed doing my digital studies. So here's a couple pics with their respective videos - I recorded my process via Livestream while rockin' out to Gary Numan haha! I hope they help someone out. The value painting to color method is really helping my get a good workflow down

Thanks again for the responses! I'll be posting more stuff up soon!

I'll be working more on this tonight around 9pm PST, if anyone gets bored

Its been a while since I've updated - I recently moved all of my stuff from three rooms into one in preparation for my attendance at TAD! I'm super excited to start the school year. I'm also preparing for 2 art shows here in Vegas in June and July between commissions. Busy busy busy (as usual!)

Here's a few random sketches/doodles/photos I've gotten together - now that I'm settled I should be updating more frequently. Looks like its going to be a productive year

The traditional portraits are coming along very nicely. Keep painting. Also, are there any painters you are looking at in reference to your portrait painting. A couple that I find particularly inspiring are of course Sargent and Rembrandt but I would also take a look at Odd Nerdrum. Nerdrum's faces are exquisite.

Been a while! Busy busy as usual - painting for 3 shows at the moment, one of which is LVSK8 IV (everyone paints on a blank skate deck) should be a blast! And I have (almost) 2 weeks off coming up soon so I'll be working non-stop on artwork. Supppeerrr excited

Fetsch thanks for checking out my work!

vatteh yeah it is interesting... i need to do more of the streams, as I find my technique evolves and builds on itself every time I sit down to do something.

Max Martelli Rembrandt and Sargent are a couple of my faves, I've never checked out Odd Nerdrum but I will now! Thanks for the info

Here's a few head sketches I've been doing lately... haven't had time to save files (sometimes I just mess around) but I'm going to try to do these once a day. These are all from ref, because I can't find anyone to sit for me!! But hopefully I'll be attending some local portrait sittings soon.

Here's a few pieces I finished recently... the oil portraits went to their respective owners, and finally had time to sit down and tweak the portrait of my friend Ryan to final (for now anyway) ... I'm pretty happy with the digital, still trying to find my stride in both mediums.

Bellow - hey man! thank you I will unfortunately not be downtown tomorrow night because I have family in town for a wedding! I was supposed to participate in LVSK8 IV but my varnish clouded up my piece and I had to sand it down and didn't have time to start over. Bummed I will be at the next one probably. Trying to go to Dr. Sketchy's too, but we'll see how that goes

Damn that sucks about the varnish. I am just going because my homie wanted to go down there and celebrate his Birthday. Not sure if I will make it down that way next month. It all depends on what comes and goes. I am just going with the flow for right now. Dr. Sketchy, what is that? Just curious to see if you were going to be down there.

    monster TAD update!

@Beelow - sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread! Dr. Sketchy's is a monthly figure drawing session with Burlesque models. Its AWESOME!

Anyways - as is probably evident, I've been really busy and haven't been on this side of the forums for quite some time. I've been in the Illustration program at TAD for about a month now - starting out in foundations, and working my butt off! It's been awesome.

Thought I'd dump a few TAD assignments in here, just to share...

    Dr. Sketchy's!

Forgot to post this one too! Last night Dr. Sketchy's had a special session sponsored by U.R. Custom Artworks here in Vegas. We had the models pose at the Erotic Heritage Museum (which has a very unique interior I might add... like something straight out of Caligula heh) ... Anyways, U.R. had a contest event, for which the winners get to display their sketches for sale in the gallery for one month. I was lucky enough to place for 3rd!
