hmm yea I dunno.. I was hoping that we could stay away from the number thing considering for cow 50 or whatever we did a "50" topic, then cow 75 we did a "75 ton" topic and for cow 100 we're doing 100 thumbnails, wish cow 99 would have had an "ACTUAL TOPIC" lol sorry fozzy.

I was just hoping that before the 100 thumbnails we'd have something fairly original and a bit unique instead of a number which pretty much leaves it wide open and those topics tend to get a bit dull in my opinion. Bare in mind I may do it at any rate but I wish we could change it to something "anything" else.

I can't really find any interesting historical catastrophes that happened September 23rd 1908, however, 99 years ago Monday (the 17th) the first guy who ever died in an aeroplane crash (piloted by Orville Wright, who was injured) Thomas Etholen Selfridge, passed away.

Perhaps some sort of vicious flying creature, jealous that mere men have figured out how to fly, is a way to go.....

That sounds like a nice idea Michael Jaecks, you should shoot for it. I particularly like the bit about the creature being angry about humans flying [ I could picture it shooting down planes haha ]

Took awhile to think of something but here is my progress so far on this topic.

    C.O.W. - #099: 99 years!

The "name" is a parasite that lives inside a human host. It lies along the underside of the medulla oblongata as it grows. The parasite will reach maturity after 99 years within the hosts body, but since many hosts fail to reach the required age the "name" often does not reach maturity. During its time within the host the "name" will digest small amounts of brain matter for its nourishment as it grows. When the host reaches the later portion of its life this loss of brain matter is noticed in the form of memory loss. As the "name" prepares to exit the host's body it begins to stretch along the brain attaching its body along the upper and lower portions of the brain, and then comes to rest like a cap on the frontal lobe of the cerebral cortex. Along the stretches of the "names" body are small legs used for digging and general locomotion. By the time the "name" has gotten into position the host has died due to brain failure. Using an acid along with its jaws it will eat away at the host’s skull so that it may exit the body taking along with it the host’s brain to use as a food source for the remainder of its life cycle.

Here's what I have so far, trying out fish eye lens style to give a sense of scale.
Obviously inspired by shadow of the colossus

(I'll write up something better later)
"Sent by the gods to consume the world should it fall into sin, the mighty Ich'nith'qota, the judge of man, lays sleeps for ninety nine years inside it's hewn tomb, made from the stone of the earth itself. The sins of the world eat away at his sleeping place, and if at the end of 99 years his tomb has grown too thin and weak to contain him, he will burst forth and consume the world."

This could be a very interesting topic, but I certainly think that there will have to be some imaginative stretches to get good output I'll see what I can come up with.

Well, Jay-Z had 99 Problems but a bitch ain't one. HIT ME!

It's a shame I missed the last match, but circumstances beyond my control barred me from entering. This time, as the Perfect Strangers theme rolls, "nothing's gonna stop me now!!"

    Balinese Aracnaeraptor
    C.O.W. - #099: 99 years!
The Balinese Aracne pupae burrows into the ground after gorging itself on a high abundance of food before entering it's metamorphosis cycle of 99 years. Over the course of this time the creature develops and then emerges as a beautiful hunter which is ready to feed and attract a mate to begin the cycle all over again.

    the Methusalem Ape (Pongo Dumbledorus)

Yo,this is the Methusalem Ape from the Highlands of Nepal.Known to public as the Mi-Go or the Yeti ,the Snow Human and Stuff.
Actually nobody has made a real proof of the existence of the population, because they go public only every 99 years, when mating season takes place.Nature has got a sick sense of houmor (how to spell??),most of them do not even get this old and die before wedding time, so they become very few only. The second joke of Mother Nature is the strange behaviour in mating. The one with the longest beard will get all the girls. This was the reason for the scientists to name the girls and boys in relation to "Fresh Dumbledore", famous rapper from Harry Potter Universe, who has got a significant beard. They thought, that this was funny.Haha.
