    School of Visual Arts (SVA)

I think of attending this NY art school for a cartooning or illustration BFA. What do you think about this fine establishment?
The pricing is relatively low (at least by NY standards) and the courses seem pretty exciting. Any opinions?
    Thanks in advance

Well, I think that's a great idea (but I'm biased).

Elwell, are you teaching at SVA? I'd love to ask a few questions in that case!

Yes, in the Illustration department. Right now I'm teaching painting, and I've also taught general illustration classes.

he, i go to SVA as well. im currentl a freshmen, and i woud say its a very fine choice. its only the.. second week of school, and somehow i have already gotten better at pretty much everything (but reading +writing). Painting, and drawing, and computer arts.

hey ewell, do you know Brickhouse? (painting) or andrew gerndt(?) (drawing), or bobkoff(?) (graphic design). these are my teachers at the moment, and they seem to be amazing so far.

    I love these smileys.

How about the SVA MFA in Illustration? Elwell, do you think that it's be a good program to prepare for a career in concept art. It seems to be aimed at illustration for magazines and such from the website, but you can't judge a book by it's cover!

I'm looking for a grad school that is going to have an intense technical aspect...would SVA fall into that category?

Hey Elwell, does SVA offer any drawing classes to non-students? Also does SVA still have the life drawing sessions? I saw it listed on a website and I went to the SVA building the other day but the people at the desk seemed confused about it.

Sure, call or drop by and get a continuing ed catalog.
As for open life drawing, I'm not sure if there are sessions running ATM. The thing to do would be to call either the Fine Arts or Illustration departments.

I'll check it out, it's probably too late for this semester but maybe next semester. I should've went to an art college but you probably have to have a portfolio and wait to see if you are accepted

It's a quality program that turns out good people who get work. How it compares to Pratt and Parsons I couldn't say.

I sent away for some information on this school just today. I'd really prefer a school in Canada, but this one looked interesting (and a slick webpage too).
