    ROUND COMMENTS:

    SUUUUUUPEEEERB ROUND!!!!!!!

Comments are comming. I decided to cut a bit more then Mime - here is his selection. I cut out the *barely make it. Competition.. is a bitch

    MIME:

so here are the people that won't make it to the poll and my reasons :

Lewis : we don't see much of the character, and there is no explanation of the concept. The values and drawing are not very defined.

Dan Valkar : the concept is interesting, but the picture is lacking definition, coherent values and the drawing isn't v
    ery tight.

Wendigo : I like the idea, but the airbrush rendering like rendering without coherent lighting and values doen't really works.

attorney : Why the negative effect ? And even if I get the concept, I don't really see any flies.

Coleb : disturbing image, I like the overal feeling, but I don't think it fullfills the rules of good values and shapes.

Mediaslave : we should see more of the character. The contrast is nice and the image is interesting, but it is not really showing us a character concept since we barely see the character.

I don't know if you'll agree with me, so all the other entries makes it to the poll, I'll have the list below, but first, entries that barely makes it to the poll (your * entries) :

ACRO* : I like the effort in the picture, the idea is quite nice. But like some of your earlier CHOWs, I think that your drawing is too rigid, you really should loosen up and have more "fun" with the pencil and paint. Right now you are trying too much to have textures for every area, andyou don't concentrate on the values and shapes

Foxinshocks* : the drawing has a good rythm and a good dynamism. Your colors are a bit too quick, it is a bit too much of a sketch right now.

maxbadger* : Nice concept, very funny. Your values are a bit on the "very light" scale, it id a bit hard to read the shapes, especially on her body and clothing.

jack Frost* : the color work seems too quick, there isn't really any light source.

Final: TREVOR - CONGRATULATIONS MAN. Another one down.
    Now.. give me a topic!

    Yes!
I finally worked up the nerve to do a chow. I hope to make it a regular event. This was a lot of fun.

Okay, so heres the concept behind the... uh... concept

    Fly - Perfect recyclers

The discovery of habitable planets outside our solar system sparks a new industrial age. Resources are squandered in the hopes of being the first to reach the new frontier. As a mass exodus occurs the planet reaches a point unable to sustain further abuse. Massive earthquakes, unnatural storms, and unstable gravity plague the earth. All attempts at preservation are abandoned in favor of fleeing for the unknowns of new space. A lone scientist racked with guilt over his work in the ravaging of the planet vows to set in motion events to heal it. He races against time, knowing the last Galactic Ark will leave with or without him. In his attempts he combines and alters the genetic codes of countless species trying to create that which can survive and in some way heal a dying planet. He cannot create what he seeks, but in his final grasps he writes upon the minds of the simplest life forms. He gives instructions to their DNA, a new set of rules for surviving that will change the instincts of the carrier. It will take thousands, if not millions of years of evolution for the species new genetic imperative to become a dominant trait. But someday... maybe...his efforts will be successful and we can return.

Making a deal with the Devil can lead you to riches and wealth, it can also lead to your body being used to breed demon flies.

This took me about five hours, I'm still not very good with photoshop and unfortunately it really shows.

The idea had been growing in my mind for some time. True poo! All the king's horses and all the king's men could not get it back inside of me again.

The breeder cuts gashes in their skin which fill with maggots giving the flies a breeding ground, and holds a bowl of rotten meat as food for the adults.
The job of the breeder is to attract and hold the flies aways from the village so that the rest of the villagers can be free of the disease carrying pests. The post is drawn by lottery and is always a traumatic event, though the person chosen usually resigns to their fate once they go blind.

Deemed worthy enough, the king would be stripped of all earthly amenities and titles, and then shaved and scalped from brow to nape. After a night of final bliss (which would usually consist of heavy drinking and lawless sexual priviledges) the king would be placed upon the High Throne and have set upon his head the Crown of Cizin. Honeycombed with small compartments, the crown would spill upon the great king's tender head, a drove of maggots. Often lasting several months, the fledgling flies would feed and mate and feed and finally exodus the front of the crown via a small hole. The tribesmen believed the flies housed the kings soul and delivered him to his true kingdom.

The Crown of Cizin was kept in place by a series of small upward angled hooks. This way it was certain that the king would not disgrace himself by removing the vesseled helmet.

A baboon demon makes a deal with the local Lord of the Flies to stop her tribes food from being infested by maggots. Turns out they meant slightly different things when he asks her to 'ensure the continuation of his line'.

EDIT:It might be a bit late but here's an updated version:

to grow the big ones you must give yourself to flys, they must become one with you and you one with them.

The need for flies is massive and constant. Down in the breeding chambers
, among the piles of stinking and decaying meat, Roger's taking a break and thinks through the details for the stag party tomorrow.

It was an odd sort of plague. Very few people became sick, and no one knew how it was transmitted. The first symptoms were an overall purplish bruised look to the skin, quickly followed by fever and delusions. The infected were taken directly to the chambers below the palace, where they were chained and left to die while the flesh, quite literally, fell from their bones. Even the rats wouldn´t enter that part of the dungeon. But the flies . . .the flies feasted.

    Fly breeder: (Vodoo child)

CHOW#88 - FINAL BURNING - Guest Host: Mime. Topic: The fly breeder

Murder is an everyday thing to keep fresh corpses for his "mauna" he says.
He calls himself "pesse ganga" (the fly doctor), and sees himself as a purifier, a bringer of peace and a bridge to the underworld. A safe conduct for all his brothers and sisters that suffer the drought, the hunger and pain of misery in forgotten lands.
Lures the flys with his special soup, a powerfull mixture of pheromone extract of dead bodies, blood and rotten tissue from animals and humans.

Pestering the fields, spreading malaria, yellow fever, and leprae disease in the dead plains of africa... to purify: The fly breeder.

Hmm. I ran out of time to satisfactorally complete this one, but I'll probably continue to work on it. An actual background would help.

Concept: "She is an Urban demon this one. She has no name, at least no name that human lips can buzz out. She seems to be a form of both retribution and corruption demon. She preys exclusively on the morally bankrupt and corrupt, consuming them completely. But she seems to rebirth their twisted souls as enormous fly pupae after 'digestion.' I fear to think what would emerge if these pupae are allowed to mature and hatch."

As hairdos became more and more elaborate in the 1600s, thin wooden frames were used to support the columns of hair and accessories. Since these were hard to make and install, women went without washing their hair for months on end, leading to its natural decomposition. The middle of the hair is like a wet piece of cotton candy, writhing with maggots and spewing a continual exodus of new-born flies.
It's not polite to stare though, and everyone else is in the same boat.
