thanks! I'm trying to refine my technique so that its like that - being able to use soft and hard edges properly is what i'm practicing at the moment! Its tricky tho!

Great stuff .. love the colour usage ... especially on the second portret ... minor crit on first portret is too much white above on the upper mouth ( the reflection ) but don't mind me :p

Great stuff in your sketchbook as well ... like it :-)

The blue/purple hair reminds me of the Nika assassin character from Guild Wars: Factions.

Ah yeah, I saw that in imaginefx! Grats to you indeed! Lovely style and work you have, been kinda lurking about and seeing you pop up at a lot of the time

The first piece reminded me instantly of Andrew Jones, it's an awesome style. And your portraits are amazing, I really like those.

I saw your feature in IFX, too, so congratulations for that.

thanks for support! Cant believe so many saw my imagine fx thingy!

yeh that piece did come out all andrew jones! I think it was the rake brush that did it - but oddly i wasnt going for an andrew jones feel! But nevertheless, i might work into that one and add more detailing as i am happy with the composition!

The portraits are great. You're quite good at getting that balance, where it's not generic at all and not symmetrical, even when front-view. Something that drives me crazy is the generic face... I even found a website recently for a continuing education summer academy of arts where they tackle "drawing the face" and their example wasn't even up to snuff.

The "cow95" and "cow96" are great images. I like the fis-like creature in green. There's a delicate suggestion of detail without getting too sharp or lifeless, and I love the inventiveness. I'm not one for sci-fi or fantasy art, but this work is pretty good.

I do have to say, however, that the first piece has too many re-used brushes and brush strokes, hurting an otherwise well-painted piece. The 2nd and third images are fairly cliche in subject and pose, as well as weak in composition. The biggest thing you can be thinking about is composition and originality of pose/figure.

Congrats on the feature. That's a nice achievement.

Geuseppe - thankyou for the comments and crits! At the moment i keep falling back on cliche and easy poses because i'm ony really starting to understand how to paint the figure properly. So unfortunately those are my crutches for the moment!

I see what you mean with the brushes, again, i'm new at this haha, so hopefully i will be able to refine everything i do quickly!

Hm, I think you should refine those , some of them , just a little bit more.. Some areas are very muddy, the whole nude girl is muddy!!

Otherwise.. haha, who am I kidding ? Amazing work man.. I shouldn't even try to critique your work.. keep it up!

  • Hi man! thanks for your pm I got kinda afraid when I saw your name haha.. Thought you'd yell at me ; )

Anyways, you asked for further critique.. Your work is muddy, but its really easy to fix.. just use a harder brush, and play with those edges.. edges are really what kills your artwork.. I think, especially the girl ( is she from life or ref ? ) I'm not sure if you had tried to put focus or anything, because her legs where over-muddy, like a motion blur or DoF .. so I kinda sharpened everything up.. and I believe u should do this with more of your stuff.. sharpen the edges where its needed! shadows too.. They are all around too soft! You get some great stuff in here.. just refine them a little and they will kick ass

*I sharpened the edges .. U seem to be unsure where to put the lines so u you go with a soft one ? Not sure.. but the hair and face kinda reminds me of people who do this.

    * Anatomy ? , Ok I admit that i'm not master in anatomy so beat me down on this one, because i'm sure theres an explaination, but when I went over your piece , I just realized how off it looked... Not sure though!! I must say that the hand looks very male'ish and rough compared to the rest in this piece!!
