    Hi Kevin,
I have some question about the CURRICULUM SUGGESTIONS.
Is it up to date? How long is a semester? Will the recommended classes in one semester be available at the same time? Will I be able to take the classes on the list during a relatively compacted time period? how long it would the break between each semester be?

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Flatlux,

Thanks for your interested in our classes

The suggested curriculum page is current as the foundation classes don't change much.

Each semester is 10 weeks in length and the class date and time slot might shift a little from semester to semester depending on the instructor's schedule.

In general, we don't recommend taking more than 5 classes per semester. 1 class is plenty if you are working and 3~4 classes are good if you are starting out. With 5 classes, you have to be very good with time management as each class requires 8~12 hours of homework per week. For the storyboard classes, the homework hours can be even more at 20+ hours per week for each class.

Each semester break is about 6 weeks.

A lot of the answers to your questions are currently on the website and you can find them on the FAQ page:
    http://conceptdesignacad.com/new-page-1/

    Hope this will help~!!

    Best,
    Kevin

    Hi Shemorthman,

Yes, you can learn how to draw starting with foundation classes. Start with classes such as "Intro to Perspective" & "Vis Com 1: Dynamic Sketching" to help you get started.

For your reference, you can check out our Curriculum Suggestion page to understand which order of classes to take first:

    Hi Shernorthman,

We run 3 semesters a year and for the prices of the classes, you can find them here on our website.

    http://conceptdesignacad.com/class-schedule/

Tuition rice semester depends on which and how many classes you take each semester and we usually make a price adjustment in the Summer to reflect inflation. So you might need to prepare a little extra budget cushion if you plan to study for multiple years.

    Best,
    Kevin

    Hello people!

I've read at the school's FAQ that Concept Design Academy is NOT accredited. So how exactly do they handle visas? Or they don't accept international students? Or you have to attend with a tourist visa (in that case there's a stay limit, right?)

Last post regarding that matter was back from 2007.

    Hi Technokill,

    Thanks for your interest

Since CDA is not an accredited college, we do not offer any student visa to international students. However, we do have many international students studying at CDA studying under their 90 days visitor's visa. According to regulations, a visitor is able to take take classes without student visa as long as it is under 18 hours of class per week.

We have many students traveling over each semester to study this way and several files for visa extension so they can stay for 2 semesters. This set up work very well for students who is interested in coming over for an intensive study of 1~2 semesters. Afterwards, they return home to continue their practice and portfolio building. We often also get many returning international students coming back again after their initial study with us.

Hope this will help and please feel free to e-mail us at contact@conceptdesignacad.com for more details questions.

    Best,
    Kevin

Hey KChen, thanks for the reply!

    Got 2 more concerns though:

1- Do you offer portfolio prep for art colleges, like art center or otis?

2- Would you say the PCC route for international students (for a 2 years associate degree) along with training at CDA (at the same time, for those 2 years) would be a valid option for someone wanting to work in the entertainment art field and live in the US?

Let me know if it's best to discuss this via email!

    Best!

Most unfortunate that such schools as these are just about all in california/far west it seems.

    Hi Subhumanfailure,

Thanks for checking out our post and for your interest

I was wondering where are you currently located? Oversea or out of state?

We have many international and out of state students attending classes at CDA for several semesters at a time. Many are here with a visitor's visa or are traveling from out of state to study here for a few month.

The advantage of coming to LA to study is for the focused learning environment and the relationships you build here. It really helps to accelerate your learning by surrounding yourself with other artists who are serious about their craft. Having the teachers that sets a high bar and giving focused lectures & feedback also helps you improve quickly with some hard work.

Since a chunk of our students are local professionals, a student's working reputation can spread easily if the student's work is solid and they are very friendly and professional to work with. These are just some of the benefits that draws students in from long distances to study here. I can understand it is a lot of planning and saving to come study here in person, but it is definitely doable and worth it for the focused learning environment and for the experiences you gain from it.

Bellow are some recent international students attending classes at CDA. You can check out their works or try contacting them for their advice to hear about their recent or current experiences at CDA:

I am located on the east coast in MA, the other end of the country unfortunately, though it can be agreeably said that there are some who do have the fortunate enough capability to travel longer distances for education choices.

Nonetheless, CDA's credibility is spectacular, and the same can't be said for too many schools, not only a apparently well rounded curriculum focus for the Art students study, but also very good networking/fellow student connections to be made which would be beneficial in all area's of a students future.

I most respectfully appreciate your response and information, and if so possible, perhaps i may be able to venture the possibility at some point.

Concept Design Academy Summer 2018 - Summer Semester Starts June 4th~!!

    Hi Everyone,

This weekend (June 5, 6, & 7), Marshall Vandruff will be back to CDA to teach a special workshop on Artistic Composition & Design.

In this 3-session seminar, Marshall Vandruff will go over how great artists design their work to evoke emotions from their viewers. He will explain the basic principles of composition and show how old masters have used them to create art throughout the ages. Be prepared for a weekend of creative, invigorating learning from one of the best teacher on this complex and important subject~!!

Marshall is very well respected for his teachings in composition. Here are some artists' thoughts after attending Marshal's composition workshop in the past:

"Marshall's Composition Class. One of the most important classes I've ever taken. Marshall stimulated and inspired me more than anybody I've ever learned from."Justin Sweet

"After four years at a prestigious art college, Marshall introduced me to important concepts that I think about every time I sit down to do a painting."Chris Appelhans

"If you care to be wiser, more knowledgeable, and a more competent artist, go see Marshall Vandruff".Drew Struzan
