Hey Kevin, if you would be so kind, please help in answering the following questions:

    • Will the Fall 2009 Term start in Oct.? When does registration begin?
    • Will you still be teaching Analytical Figure Drawing on Sundays from 9:30-12:30pm?

    Thanks

    Hi Burning Chrome,

Our Fall term is scheduled to start on Oct. 3rd (always the first Saturday).
The official sign up date starts on Sept 1st (always the 1st of the month).
My Analytical Figure Drawing class will most likely stay on Sunday morning unless there are schedule conflicts.

If there are any small schedule adjustments, you will be able to find out by Sept. 1st.

The best way to stay on top of our schedule is to be on our school mailing list. To be added to the list, just send us an e-mail request and you will be informed of our schedule ahead of the sign up time.

    Our e-mail is contact@conceptdesignacad.com

Since we are a small program, our classes gets filled up quickly due to the limited seating. I would usually recommend students to start paying attention by the end of Aug. Our class choices and schedule doesn't change much from term to term, so it is fairly easy to plan ahead. Some of our more popular classes get filled up within hours and other classes within a week or two (Environment Design classes tends to fill up first).

Hope this helps and thanks for checking

    Best,
    Kevin

    Thanks for the info!

After seeing your figure drawing work on display at LAAFA, I'm itching to head over to Pasadena for your class. If the atelier course load is manageable and I have the available cash, I'll see you in the Fall

I'm interested on enrolling for the figure drawing class. Is there any room left the Analytical Figure Drawing class? If so, do you recommend it for a straight up beginner?

    Hi Diar,

The Analytical Figure Drawing class is designed for beginning students. I do cover a lot of information in that class, but they are all based on the same foundation idea of simple form construction and functionality.

Beginning students will get the proportion, weight and simple form part of the class. More intermediate students will learn more about functionality and mechanic of the human body design. Due to this, many student take this class twice to digest all the info.

You can visit one of mine old class blog to help you get a feel for the class structure. The class has evolved over the years, but it is fairly close:
    http://analyticalfiguresp08.blogspot.com/

Unfortunately, the class is currently full with a waiting list.

Two classes I would recommend that are still available and beginner friendly are:

    - Sketching for Environment with Ed Li

    - Intro to Character Design with David Colman

both of these teachers starts from the very basics and will be able to walk you through step by step.

(As for David Colman's class, he focus a lot of capturing gesture and attitude of the model. He starts off by teaching the basic structure, then teaches you how to invent the figure or animal afterward. The class works from costume model for the gesture and fabric sessions. He also checks out the animal samples from Natural History Museum during the animal drawing portion of the class.)

Hope this will help and let me know if you have any questions.

    Best,
    Kevin

Dang, I was struggling a bit on anatomy for quite some time. I really needed that class too! I'd take the intro to character class if I didn't suck at making pictures and for the sketching for environment class I think would help. Whats holding me back is the fear of messing up too much and not ready to take the course.

Don't worry too much. Messing up is part of the learning.

A friend of mine, Chris use to say:
My artwork is my reaction to mine own bad drawings.

Basically he corrects them until he get them closer to what he wants. That is pretty much how we all learn. You just learn to correct them faster as you draw more.

What we aim to teach is the foundational drawing skills and storytelling, so you can use these tools to better push your designs further.

Glad to hear this. Please reserve me a spot for the sketching for environment class. Where exactly do I send the payment to? Is it done by online or do I head over to the school and pay?

So I know it's still early to be asking, but when does Fall enrollment usually start? I just want to be prepared so I can be aware and jump on it when it comes around. Are most of the same courses that are offered in the spring also offered in the fall?

    I also wanted to inquire about the work load. Are there assignments that the students given (If so, what would you say is the average?), or is most of it largely just what the student decides to put into their work? I hope to take classes at CDA while enrolled as a full-time student at Pasadena City College come this fall, and while I certainly want to keep myself busybusybusy, I also want to have some idea of how much classwork I can expect to be doing so that I make sure I'm not getting myself in over my head, yeah? ^^;

    Hi Azheryn,

    Thanks for your interest

Our Fall term starts on the first Saturday of Oct. every year, sign up usually starts on the first of Sept.

The class selections will stay fairly the same. But, the instructors might alternate depending on their availability.

As for homework assignment, you will need to reserve about 8 hrs of homework time for each class (especially the design courses).

A lot of students take the classes after work or after their regular college classes. Just make sure you save enough time for the homework so you can get the most out of the classes.

Hope to meet you soon at the school~!!
