    Demoreel concepting

    Hi there
My name is Jakob Kousholt, Im 18 years old and I currently work as a modeler at zeitguyz game developers. I feel, that I am not showing what I can do, with my current gallery so I'm off to make a reel with 3 characters in hopefully a very high quality.
I hope you guys will help me by giving me critique to my concepts.

My first concept will be a character called Scrent.

His primary weapon will be a spear with a sharp bottom (left) and a killer spear-head (right).

Ive been studying figure drawing the last 6 months. could you please point out the errors? then it would be much easier to correct it instead of it's "just wrong". The anatomy is very stylized, just so you know Im not going for a realistic anatomy structure. just the basics..

    But thank you for noticing

Well to start, the first image has a few things wrong with it. Here's what stuck out to me. The abdomen has some trouble with it. Mainly how far the rib cage protrudes past the lower muscles. This causes a sort of off balance appearance and throws the stance off. The left calf is giving the impression that the foot should be turned inward, but it points the opposite way. The arm is twisting in two different directions. The bicep is flowing outward, opening the arm up, and then immediately the forearm twists in. If we're assuming the forearm position is the one you want then the bicep should rotate in towards the pec a little more and we should see some of the triceps. Also the hand needs some work in general. It seems to be folding in on itself a little to harshly. I've attached an image i painted over to give you an idea. That's just my two cents, and I'm no master of anatomy, but hopefully it will help you out.

mrbo, thanks for the critiqe and the link. appreciate it..

Now, I've tried to stand up, and twist my arm and leg as he does on the first drawing, I don't know if its me who is elastic, but I had no problem posing my arm and leg like that. Yes it is exagerated and it would be easier and more natural to stand is you have drawn it, but it has less dynamic too it..

I understand why you feel the chest and stomach area is a problem. It was a design choice. I would try too see what happened if you tilted the ribcage backwards so you wouldn't just get a "strong guy" feeling to it, but more of a creature feel. But I see that it is clearly not working.. I'll try to work on the stomach area and make it intresting in a more "not weird looking"-manner...
The hands haven't been drawn. I just made a 2-3 second sillhoute thingy to get the proportions..

    thanks again for the critique

Thumbs up Ture its very stylized

Am sry I dont post enough so for my crit i can give, hmm...its not exactly, bad,...am just not good at critiques...?, am sry

I have a simaliar friends with a broad style that emphazies the anotomy you've some to show us, ,its like I say seeing a picture I've seen before but with more a unique figue ,that is your strength seems to come form originality, and yet the figure seems to be meshed to teh 2d concept but could use shadin here and htere across the lims to simulate a 3d aspect to the 2d concept, and like ohters said here ,a few more anotomy sketches would be nice to see more of what you draw.

now for myself am off to go buy a tablet, (I think hmm...)

i'll have to sketch more to show you what I mean , ...or et a scanner for myslef instead of usin this old one i have that keeps breaking down on me, ...oh well

And agian, by anychance do you use a tablet with adobe or macromedia maybe, even try thinkng of gettin coral, like myslef i would love to use some of the newier programs, jsut havent got around to it

well hope you post more soon, to see howyou've grown,
    now for myself,off to sketch,

.....man i need to draw more...

Hi.. you can see some of my classical art here. http://www.jakejk.com/artwork.html
I have a wacom intous 3, but i prefer to sketch on paper because of the line quality. I know It needs shading, but I think it would like to get critiqe on the huge forms, like mrbo18 was kind to point out..
Im working on a new chest. I think it's getting better.. Posting it later today!
