    More practise on faces again.
    Opinions and comments welcome.

Am I getting better at varying my faces (suppose I should ask this in the crits section really)?

Here's the title board for this festival in the coming months. A good 15 footer!
Might be a bit dodgy when it comes to putting it on display.

Love your boards! Really cool. Your mechanical/technological drawings are excellent.

If I had one crit, I would say that you need to really watch your proportions. It might help to spend time measuring your figures and faces. I notice in some of your sketches that the eyes do not match up correctly. There is a great article on spheres and how they relate to the body in the latest American artist Drawing magazine. If you can get your hands on this, I found it really helpful.

    Happy drawing! =)

The sketch book is looking pretty sweet! I love all of the portraits. I think studying blocking would help your form though-keep it up!

IndigoSummers: Thanks, glad you like them. Yeah, I'm consistantly trying to improve my heads although mostly trying to vary them a lot more as they always seems to come out the same.

Sirkenneth: Cheers mate. Will try out some block form when I get time. Any tips?

Koto Stomp: Cheers. I use acrylics mostly but trying to get more into oils.

Here's a selection of a few boards for an installation some friends are creating for Glastonbury next week. The installation / stall is called the Body Shop where you can get brain implants, telescopic limbs and cybernetic enhancements.

There were twelve boards in total [8x4ft] and I only had three days to do it in, so in total the whole lot took about 25 hours. Bit of a rush job basically.

There's still a lot more sculptures to be added to it like industrial pipes, techno panels and monitors. I've got a few videos of the techno panels, I'll make them into gifs and post them up. That's just for the outside though.
Once it's all together I'll get some proper photos, should be ace.

Just a quick card for my dad for Father's Day.
Made the mistake of doing this on a flat surface so he looks a bit elongated.

Hi! thanks for dropping by my sketchbook.

    First off, love the boards.

To your question from june 3rd: yes your getting better. One thing I'd crit is that you sometimes make the eyes/features too big for the face. I can recommend som Kchen studies:

Just got back from Glastonbury, nice weather thankfully but pretty hectic with about 150,000 people there.

Here's some photos of the Body Shop frontage put together, including pipes and the entrance sculpture by a 3D artist.

I soon discovered that the whole room was just an excuse to have a rave up

I'll put the rest of the photos on my blog [see sig].

Braintree: Thanks for the link, will give it a go. It's probably my Manga influence that makes me make the eyes too big, old habits are hard to break and all that.

youve got one of those sketchbooks that is just a pleasure to look through . granted ur observational skills and the faces from ur imagination have a ways to go yet, but the sketchbook itself just entertains beautifully, love the mix of paints and pens and pencil. uve inspired me to make more of an effort!

to improve ur faces the things that have helped me most, are 1. 'sculpting' ur heads out of boxes and making them as 3d as possible and 2. doing observational studies of real heads and faces from life, including ur own in the mirror. copyign photographs can be very limiting as the 3d information has already been translated into 2d shapes for u.

    Thanks Sleep.
Yeah, I've got fair way to go to improve my observational skills, but presently I'm trying to improve my idea of colour.
I've thought to use photos as reference but rather than just to copy, to put the head in a different position but so it still looks like the person.

I'll try the 3D box too.

Hey man! Nice paintings. And its good to see you put a lot of effort in figure drawings. Some of the facial structures are a bit off so maybe work on the underlying constructions before putting on the features and all.

Thanks Bendragon, think I'm leaping before I'm walking so will force myself to use construction before engaging upon the detail.

Just more sketch work for the boards above.

This painting was commissioned ages ago by a mate, he asked for something based around a used tampon.

I've procrastinated like hell about it and there's still a few things I'd change but I think it's just due to me being indecisive. Anyway, what's done is done.

i like how there are a hundred heads on one page. seems like you'll improve just through sheer volume. as for the underlying structure, get a skull (by whatever means). there's a world of difference between looking at pictures of a skull and actually holding one.

Nettle_Mountain: Thanks, it took me a while to do as I couldn't make up my mind what I was doing. Pleased it's finally finished.

the_original_sean: I just hope I am improving, that's all. Got a very helpful comment before telling me to work smart and not hard as otherwise I'll be going round in circles. Basically I've got to learn what I don't know and not keep redrawing what I do.
Dunno where I'm going to get a skull from, think I might have to go into Goth shops and the like. Thanks.

Here's the spray painting I did for the Boom Town Fair benefit night. Took about 15 hours as I had to get it done the day before
Each board's 4ft by 8ft so 24ft in total, just wish I'd had more time on it really.
