    Islam's Sketchbook

    Hello all,

My name is Islam Zayed and I am 21 years old. I am studying marketing at the American University of Cairo and I hate it, but that's not the issue. I have been teaching myself art for sometimes now, got into sketching and academic drawing for about 3 months and well I suck beyond human understanding.

Anywhoo I love the quality of art on this forum so I hope I can learn alot from you guys. I will post one sketch I just finished now because my photobucket account is being lame.

This is my very first wacom sketch, I have done better with pens and pencils or so I think, lemme know what you guys think of it. I want the criticism to be as constructive as it could get, you can be harsh if you want, just dont shoot me.

    There you go guys =).

greetings to a like-minded... Im studying a similar subject ..in my case it's accounting ...
nice sketch you've posted here ... especially for a first try with a wacom
I guess you should concentrate more on the forms before start hatching

looking forward to see some of your drawings done with pencils

    Hi
    Islam...welcome to CA..

Burne Hogarth is the best... but looking at the level you are right now.. I suggest that you also use Andrew Loomis's books on anatomy..
try to focus more on art studies like you are doing aright now.. you have that hairy line problem that alot of beginners have....but practice make it go away really easily.. keep studying
    Cheers

    Hello,

I took a portrait course this semester and it helped me alot, the instructor taught us loomis style, and I got some of Loomis's books so it was a great experience.

Here are some of my picks, I am abit stale these days due to me working and stuff, but hopefully I will draw more soon.

    The sketches arent arranged chronologically.

Latest portrait, was trying to draw kramer from sienfeld (whom later on I found that the reference was that of a look-a-like, not the original guy =/)...the likeness didn't turn out too well =(.

And here are some portrait studies from Loomis:

Very good studies, you've made quite a bit of progress since that first post. Keep the momentum my friend!

a 'quick' sketch...took me like 30-40 minutes to draw that face on a wacom =/. no reference, from my mind, started with the sinister(ish?) smile and worked my way up.

Another digital sketch. No reference used, just felt like drawing a black bird of some sort, wouldn't call it a crow though since it doesn't share much of the structural features

Some good stuff here! Some well chosen studies. My only crit/advice is that some perhaps seem a little bit too loose? Keep up the drawing!

Another sketch, this is sort of a WIP, i might get to work back on it later.

Again, very little reference (posed sideway in the mirror to get the arm 'right'), mouse, photoshop.

    Hope you like it
