    artist: Tom Garden
    concept:

This aquatic monstrosity dwells deep in murky water. Its a vital part of the eco system for the water it inhabits. It secretes a green slimy fungie from pores along its back tail, which is the bi-product of the food it eats. This fungie floats up to the top of the water surface, covering it vastly. This maintains the cool temperature for the water and provides cover for this fishy from any land walking beasts with an empty stomach!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Yannertastic
    concept:

A large gelatinous slug. Hopefully not too close to a big blob ;-) much like the liquid like tentacles of the alien in Abyss - it uses his sticky slimy prehensiles to grapple its victims and press or really plunge them into its body.. there it devours the victim over time with a variety of acids.
it also has a tape worm like maw of razor sharp teeth that can be used as an attack.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Hopsy
    concept:

This peaceful animal lives in tight connection with the plant in the picture. It is the food of our creature.
The animal has green secretion which smell is very unpleasant. This small attracts the flying animals , and they spread the seeds. The animal’s secretion gives very good nutritive material for the growth of plants.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Jason Strutz
    concept:

Crawling around the dungheaps, this insectivore lures bugs into its flower shaped appendage. It lacks an internal stomach so the insects are moved through tubes to the outer pods of green slime where they are digested. The creature then scratches off the pods breaks them open and sucks out the nutritious green bug goo.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Frostdrake
    concept:
    Emerald Death
"...The Emerald Death can be found in nearly every type of habitat, save water. The tips of each of its six legs have delicate feathery sensors, which can work independantly for...er...digital dexterity, or in tandem for walking. The stinger is what you have to watch out for though. One stab, and you're as good as goo. It doesn't have a proper mouth, and the two small fangs you see in front are actually hollow. Once it stabs its victim and wraps it tight, all it has to do is wait for a nice slime-filled pastry..."
"Um...sorry to interrupt sir, but I didn't think insects, or spiders...or whatever it is can get as big as you're saying. Something about limitations of gravity...?"
"Just keep telling yourself that son...just keep telling yourself that."
    C.O.W. - #095: Green Slime - Voting!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: bluefooted
    concept:
    Scuddernewt
The scuddernewt inhabits small pools at the edges of swamps. The creature secretes a gooey, green slime from its cloaca that coats the surface of the water. Any small animals unlucky enough to fall in will quickly find themselves unable to escape from the sticky goo. The scuddernewt waits until its victims have become exhausted or drowned to begin feeding.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: masque
    concept:
    Gryndllstumpen
Gryndllstumpen are some of the more loathsome creatures to inhabit the world's enchanted forests: Malevolent spirits that animate lowly pond scum, slime molds and various fungi to create a "body," they often possess the rotting shells of fallen trees, laying in wait for unsuspecting wildlife, backpackers, and air-headed young maidens who gather mushrooms in low-cut negligees.
Gryndllstumpen magic gives them the power to mimic the forest's agents of decay, and when a likely victim passes near enough, they reach out with green slimy tendrils that paralyze and then engulf the prey, digesting them alive over the span of a week or so. Not a pleasant way to go.
So next time you're out gathering 'shrooms, take heed and beware the Gryndllstumpen!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: WhtTigress
    concept:
    Multicaudaserpens
The Multicaudaserpens or "snake with many tails" as it is known locally is a very rare creature that inhabits small caves or large burrows. It secretes a fluorescent green slime that coats the floor of the tunnel. This slime paralyzes predators and any other creatures who may want to use the burrow for themselves. When the reptile leaves it's resting place it usually has dinner waiting for it. This serpent must eat a very large amount of food to produce the slime trail. They are rarely seen outside their dwelling where they wait for the food to come to them. It may use the same burrow and slime trail for months at a time, only going out far enough to feed and replenish the slime used by it's dinner. The creature also has a toxic venom that it rarely uses except when threatened. This venom is generally fatal even to much larger creatures when it bites them. Extensive checks for the slime's fluorescence are advised when spelunking in it's native area. Huge slime trails have been found even in large caves, however it is unknown whether these trails are from one very large creature, or many small ones working together.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: huhwhat
    concept:
    Coleoptera Splaticus
Coleoptera Splaticus mimics a squashed version of its cousin species Coleoptera Innocenta by spraying green slime reminiscent of mangled insect innards on the floor before laying prone and playing dead. It primarily preys on the toes of unsuspecting humans.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: abo
    concept:

This bony ungulate creature is an opportunistic omnivore.
Both male and female nurse their young. The udder's contents also serve as a natural defensive mechanism from potential predators. The "mothers milk" is toxic to even adults of the species. Only infants seem immune until fully weened, at which point they begin to lactate on their own.
Fast but sightless, it is nocturnal and energetic by nature, often seen running in small herds at top speeds. Their speed and toxicity generally insure them a long life - barring the occasional, untimely meeting with one of the many large rock outcroppings or chasms which are common in their range.

    artist: Schade
    concept:

This aquatic scavenger, uses its rasplike probiscus to flay already deceased animals. It emits a toxic green slime while feeding to deter other would be predators, and assist the decomposition of the carcas.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: JasonClarke
    concept:
    Marsh Fiend
*The Marsh Fiend is a gigantic gastropod which hides almost completely submerged in the water of swamps and marshes on alien planets. it's 'head' is really a gigantic sucker, which it uses to paralyze large prey with it's green ooze, but, it has been known to pig up human sized creatures, and drop them directly into it's stomach whole.*

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: JakkaS
    concept:
    Yomarian's Ball
These strange creatures spend almost their whole life in one place. When they are born, their body is covered with green slime made by their parents. This poisonous green substance protects them from predators. Usually in the first days of their life they are looking for good place for "home", a dark place in a forest. When they find the right place they start producing more of green slime. After a day or two their whole body is swimming in the big drop of green substance. They use it to protect themselves but it also helps in hunting. With small poison covered tentacles they paralyze small creatures and insects which are passing near their "home"...

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: timothee
    concept:

This creature's life began when it lodged itself in a dumped toxic waste barrel. Soon enough, the toxic sludge transformed this octopus into a mega-mutant of the sea. He uses the waste barrel much like a hermit crab, for shelter, while his extremely long tentacles wander around, looking for prey to snatch up. He has developed these two pod-like feeding tentacles that help digest meat before it goes into the creature's stomach. When attacked, this creature releases a radioactive green slime, that is toxic enough to kill anything within a few hundred yards of the slime. It lives in solitude within the various sea caves of the ocean.

    artist: Mj0lnir
    concept:

This creature lives in the river.
As usual it lives deep in the water. when it is hungry, it shows one's true colors.
A foreign substance falls down from the body and it pollutes the environment.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: mediaslave
    concept:

A parasite, this disgusting bastard is found in wet areas like caves, still water and other spot. The slime is actually a mild anesthetic and defensive chemical. Adults use it to numb and slow prey. the young use it to numb the area where they enter the host body, and to numb the nerves of the host as they feed.
    C.O.W. - #095: Green Slime - Voting!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    artist: Sovereign
    concept:

The female of this aquatic species spends her gestation floating around a deep sea valley littered with geysers which vomit an unusual combination of gases reacting with molten lava from deep within the core. This reaction produces a substance which, once cooled by the near freezing water, has incredible oxygen-binding qualities. While the adult has several adaptations to combat their low oxygen environment, the developing embryos require protection and high levels of oxygen. The female thus spends her time ingesting the oxygen binding slime and forming a bubble of it on her back where her embryos can mature safely whilst she returns to even greater depths to the complex undersea caves where she hunts. Occasionally, as this species sometimes travels long distances to find a mate, a female may wash up on shore, and the green slime capsule she carries fetches a high price on the black market.

Ok, i have to say something here

    JakkaS

One of the best, if not THE best creature i saw in 95 COWs yet!!!

It is in so many points extra ordinary it's just amazing!!!

The concept is a masterpiece of your sick mind...the design and the function of the creatures anatomy is just outstanding. I can really see how the creature shoots out the tentacles and pulls the victims in its slime "bag" where - and now this is the coolest of cool part - they are digested!!??! Tell me that i interpret this right, because it is awesome if so

I don't need to talk about the rendering, colors and atmosphere...but i will! We all know that you are a master of rendering, but this time you just showed what you have learned the last years and how you poured out all this knowledge over the canvas to complete a COW-masterpiece and classic already for me!

*Foz kicks his own head to calm down again*

    Other favs of me:

    alice_
If Jakkas wouldn't have pop out of nowhere and present this killer artwork, i would have voted for you. Just love the composition and idea behind this piece. Only heroes can do this act of artistic emboweling Your artwork carries this statement perfectly in my eyes, so you're a hero too in that case...bravo!

    3 small crits:
    - i wished there were more fog and therefore depth, so the image would get more of an epic impact
    - the colors of the dragon and the rock are nearly the same which again takes away some depth, making the rock darker or brighter would achieve a nice separation of the 2 elements
    - the slime looks a little cartoon-like, not so realistic...more splatter would do the trick

    Yannertastic
    The man from nowhere
Love the traditional feel of your artwork...it has much power and dynamic, hope to see more from you

I went with ALICE... jakkas was a close second (because the whole picture was greenish good for unity within, but I had a hard time visualizing where the green slime comes in... is it in a sac below the head? is it swimming in slime? does it live in the slime? etc. this picture needs and relies on the description a little too much to point out the green slime, it doesn't give me the first impression of slime, with the description it makes for an awesome piece and is very nicely rendered and uniqu to the topic)...

I also liked the masque's piece... would have gotten my vote too, but where's the green?

Overall there were a lot of really good entries...

    I voted Yannertastic.
The drawing got so much speed and movement, great light/shading.
..And it reminds me of the conceptart for "The Secret World".

I am glad our moderator recognizes a master-piece when one comes along (Makes me trust his judgement).
Jakkas, this one deserves some extra praise, though I know you're well accustomed to it.
I will say this clearly... Your entry this week is BEAUTIFUL. (I thought I had enough of your creatures on my harddrive, but I had to save this one too.)
I'm sincerely glad that the genre of fantasy reaches these levels occationally. You're work remains an inspiration!

I'm still hoping to kick your ass soon, though!

I voted JakkaS. they were all seriously amazing, but this one seemed to have a bit of that 'holy crap! i'd love to see that thing!' magic. although, i suppose i wouldn't want to see the poison pointy things too close, cause i'd become a part of his food supply for sure.

Not much to say here. Sorry I couldn't participate.
Jakkas, I know you hear it all the time, but good-goddamn brother. Fucking amazing. I have to admit I'm getting a little tired of you kicking my ass, but this time, I almost wept. Not to insult the Foz, but I'm pretty sure Jim Henson just sat up, and he's gonna call you. Great work my friend.

Voted Yannertastic because of the composition and dynamic feeling of the picture. Also I personally feel the green slimy feeling much more in Yannertastic's picture than in Jakkas' picture, which made me think more of green swampy water than actual slime.

    Good grief Jakkas!
    Amazing image and concept!

Close runnerups for me were Yannertastic and Alice_
    I also liked Mj0lnirs creature.
    Very entertaining round!

Tough pull between Jakkas and Yannertastick but I had to side with the former. Such a rich atmosphere and so much personality in that poor, sad face! Great job.

oh my god im sooooooo embarrassed LOL okay you can call me a jackass and throw rotten fruit at me now... ... im such a noob.

Fozz could you change my vote to Abo? I liked this piece because of the uniqueness of the design and the solid form and rendering i felt he used - i could definitely see the creature hulking around with its huge feet and the sacks of fluid knocking about beneath it. I'd love to see a rendered model of it - Great work :-) A+++!

I felt TomGarden deserved some votes, so I gave him mine. Cool creature! Well done.

JakkaS of course once again delivered the goods! So pretty, so nice to look at! Dig it! This is my favourite, but I need to help Tom get some votes

abo: If your creature ran through a forest a branch could get caught in this round hole on the creature's back. Something to think about next time you design a creature.

    Thanks Lege1 for the vote.
Man, there was some awesome pieces comin out of the woodwork this round. So many great entries to choose from, but Jakkas got my vote cuz there was a real nice atmosphere in the painting. Good work everyone.
