chineese couple name their child "@"

a couple in china have decided to name their child "@" because it expresses their love for him.....read link and it is a bit more understandable when they explain why something about the pronounciation of it when spelt out in letters.

is this internet gone crazy?..people using computer symbols to name their children?....can you see the people lining up to call their kids "!" or "?" or "~"...at this rate its possible

    a kid called "@"
Any fool can know. The point is to understand.

Damn, I thought my name was weird but this is just whoa.

(Dibs on calling my first kid Qwerty. The next one gets Dvorak, and he better not complain, or I'll change it to Asdfgh)

its a bit of a stretch, but not impossible to believe. Any single syllable could be shared by one to couple dozen characters, each with different meaning depending on the context.

    ai-ta could mean
    "love him/her"
    "shorter than him/her"
"enduring his/her [any number of actions]"
    "near/touching him/her"

so yeah, translating between languages makes for alot of fun.

hito: August Dvorak, made a different kind of keyboard to the QWERTY layout (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Dvorak). Although now it doesn't sound so silly to name a kid that, seeing as Antonín Dvorak was a nice composer...heh thanks.

It'll be hard for the kid to pick an email address since @@hotmail.com would be considered a (syntax?) error...

    爱他 pronounced @

I guess it makes sense when they explain it.

    But that's just really weird.

His email could be perfect though...if he had Lastname Firstname msn.com

So in his case, say if his last name is Chang, it could be Chang@msn.com

Recent news over here had a couple who wanted to name their first child '4 real', and they went on to say that their next two children will be named '4 sure' and '4 life'.

    Can you say 'ROFL'?

Weird. Reminds me of the swedish couple who tried to name their child "A", but I think that was an intentional remark against a small but ridiculous law on naming.

yeah i heard that story too, weird New Zealand Couple.
the government disallowed that name, and have decided to call their child Superman as an alternative.
