keep it up.... u ask for advice on things that only you will be able to fully understand by looking at other artists and by drawing.. find the compostions that attract you and study them...btw the first one is compositionally good but the ships are painted at an uninteresting angle..the closer ship should be angled away more as i already have seen the profile of that type of ship with the one in the center. ... hope that helps

and feel free to give all the ranting that i have done with my sketchbook

    peace

    DSG,

awesome work dude. keep it up. definitely just keep focusing on composition, like aesthetic forces within the frame, negative vs positive space, etc...; also, a rule to remember when it comes to design: you either repeat or you contrast.

BTW, what kind of markers do you buy? if that's the kind of quality work that you're doing with just markers then i need to get my hands on some!

I like that you experiment with so many different angles and perspectives in your work. I've always found it hard to be daring in that arena, and it's something I've got to overcome. You're making great strides in perspective and rendering atmospheres; keep at it!

damnit.. your gonna be scary good in like 20 pages kid. If you want to get great at composition take a look at the old masters.. here are a few that I've been inspired by...

    Caravagio
    Ilya Repin
    Velasquez
    Gerome
    Bouguereau

..those are the popular ones at least.

wow thanks invertedchalupa, i never thought of looking back at the master's work. I like gerome the best, but caravagio's realism and composition is... ineffable, he's a god. thanks again.

Yo, D, whats up. Your stuff has MAD potential, especially because youre payin attention to good lighting from the get-go. The cloud study with the red ship has some good ambient light and shadow stuff, and in the first two youre defenitely on your way when it comes to hard directional lighting.

-Now, not that Im some Meistro myself or anything (not even close), but, I'd suggest laying off of the glowbrush. It can make things really "airbrushy" (we been callin it the "crackbrush", cause its JUST as addictive). Maybe try rockin your highlights with other brushes and comin in with a big crackbrush on top real subtle-like to pop it.

Lookin forward to the next few...

thanks kroger. ya i noticed that about my work with the glow brush. ITS SO EFFING FUNNN.. lol. But ya, glow brushing isnt reallly my style anyways, unless the painting is realistic or the brush is used very slightly. Im getting into photoshop more now.. like it better. thanks again, i love crits, especially from Meistros. ;D

Really Nice work you have done!!
The first 4 pics in the adv. looks very professional, though the last one looks a little bit..I am not sure, maybe emphasize some foreground (e. g. sands or stone) would be a good try? Hope you won't mind crap suggestion. My work probably isn't good enough for me to deliver crits I suppose...

    Keep working hard!!

Great stuff dude... Very potential. Keep working at the foundations like anatomy and perspective(some of the stuff has demonstrated good basics alreay but still). No one can ever be too good at those stuff. lol

    Damn good stuff, dude.
You obviously know your perspective. Liking the mechanical designs a lot.
Only thing I would suggest is more studies from life and of the human form.

wow, thanks guys. great comments. what do u mean by "hard edges" by the way? and ya, ive taken 2 figure drawing classes when i was in high school. Probably the most fun ive ever had drawing, i love figure drawing. Wish i could get into it more, my figure skills need a lot of help, one thing i wish i could really draw is hands. anyways hopefully i can take some figure drawing at artcenter.
thanks again for all the great feedback

definately some heavy "design studio press" influence here (scott robertson, fengh zhu, n neville page) and you seem to have learned really well.Excellent concepts (nothing but love for those good perspectives and marker work)...I'm no color\painting expert so you'd better follow the others advide o edges n stuff

what i can tell you is just keep sharing, i love what i see in here

    ciao
