"Apple a Day"- daily sketchbook concepts by SINAZ

    Hello, all!

I wanted to start a new sketchbook (I know my other is only 2 submissions deep at the moment, but I'll be upkeeping them both regularly.)

I wanted something to keep me working on something thematic- producing a sketch per day- or taking a previous sketch to another level.

The theme is "Apple a Day" and my goal is to create a sketch each day that features an apple (or apples) as either a major or minor focal point in the piece.

First sketch, Samurai Practicing, came to my mind as a good allegory of the purpose of this sketchbook. Honing my craft, one exercise at a time while using a simple trick to keep myself focused.

Not being an ass-- critiquing. I had a lot of trouble finding references via google image-- so I'm glad to be given a link to some good sources. Basically, just images of inert, kneeling people in kimonos, a couple standing, and meh... a sword or two. Used an actor's mug for some guidance on the face... I'm sure I'll revisit this sketch in the future, and when I do, I'll make good on your critique. Thanks.

Hey, wait-- which knee would be up?

    lol... I'll watch some videos.

Mleh... the more I look at this, the more I hate it. Let's just shrink this down a bit and forget that I posted it, shall we?

So, a bit frustrated with my waning ability to draw from invention, I went back to do more study-- here's a page of faces:

I know, I cheated... but I need the practice. These are pretty much drawn from references, with some artistic licensing on the likenesses and features.

Whew-- I need to find a better excuse other than "I've been busy"-- because I have been... but not with art.

Here is another couple faces. Essentially, I took an album cover in a magazine and used the musician's face as a reference to ad-hoc these two images:

Sorry... no "apple" and no "day"... I'll get back into my groove soon.

I like the "apple a day" idea. Props to you for doing it!
Really nice sketches of faces, and combining the musician's face with other stuff. You're full of great ideas! Keep updating
