I like the last two! Both of their heads are on the smallish side though, esp the girl's. Her head is also a tad misplaced.

When you color/shade the lips it helps to think of the lighting, most times the face is illuminated from above which makes the lower lip be significantly lighter (and glistening) than the upper. There's also a shadow below the lower lip which is usually just as dark as the upper lip.

Really nice work! I like those b+w environments a lot - very surreal. It looks like you made some giant leaps forward in your last few posts; hope to see a lot more!

Hi there. Thanks for stopping by my book. Keep up the anatomy and life drawing studies, as well as proportions. I don't know if you know it already, but there's a muscle in between the biceps and triceps called the brachialis. The tapered end of the deltoid dips right between the brachialis and the biceps muscle. You can't always see it on the surface, but looking at that last image, I couldn't tell if you knew about it or not.

drewfarr- thanks for the subscription! I think ur the first to do that. hopefully we can work on getting more comments here! and a proper art job....

n1va- i will take the lighting issue under consideration. hopefully i can get some more realistic looking lips and expressions in the future.

mya- thanks for the encouragement. i need to start doing more environments. ive noticed a lot more openings for environment concept artists than character

eminkey2003- yeah i knew it was there just a screw up. i need to slow down sometimes rather than push things onto the page.

so ive been doing a bunch of writing for the webcomic and just sketching in the ol sketchbook. not a lot of digital seeing as ive been so buisy lately.
im pretty comfortable in my approach and method, now i need to refine refine and refine.

here is some zbrush sphere heads to tide u over

your characters are really nice man, anatomy and limb placement is 99% spot on. I recognize those paintings, from Guild Wars right ? Really like your girls.
Paint more enviro from life or photo and youll be set in to time with the colors.

Awesome characters! The Z-Brush stuff is pretty cool, I really like those heads.

PS My sister also goes to Whitewater, she will be starting her third year there.

Ekul- whitewater isnt bad at all. no jobs but hey who needs to pay bills....whats ur sister going for?
WhiteC-yeah i really gotta push my environments and color... ive had a sort of struggle lately with wanting to use base meshes rather than just drawing it out. its the search for perfection that is kicking my ass these days. i figure i know how to use maya why not incorporate it into my digital paintings for more complex environments. easier said than done though
    TOOLED!- THanks!

just messing around with the ol sketchpad.
been hitting a wall for the last couple of weeks. not really sure where my life is heading and its pretty frustrating.
ill get back on track with some digital stuff soon
working on my comic a lot too. i am looking forward to launching that sucker out soon

    Took a good while to look through the pages;

What I notice is you really got faces down and the good form in the figure complements it.

I think your 3D still needs a little more time to develop but is surely headed in the right direction.

    Excellent stuff!!!

Hi roidvoid, nice to see that you update at a frequent rate - keep at it, only way to get better!

My main crit is that your paintings look very flat. You need to do more colour studies (both from life and photos), as your choice of colour and values needs to be improved and worked on. It's very important especially if you want to get better at doing environments and making them believable.

These two threads make a good study companion aswell (pardon if you have seen them already) - http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=76955 and http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=74478

    Cheers, hope that helps

    Hey man

Your stuff is absolutely moving forewards, so what you should do are just a ton of anatomy studies, and you should have a look at Algenpfleger's sketchsbook and look at how dynamic his use of small and large brush strokes are. The result being that it looks very painterly.

Good to see you getting into some 3d stuff, that can be a huge challenge.

Keep it up and keep evolving

    thanks you two

ive gotta do more color from reference and from life
    ive gotta do more environments
ive gotta place my characters in more believable space.

    more figures and studies!

i really feel like im kicking a little bit of ass right now. but not to the point I want to be at (are we ever "there"). I can push my stuff further.

my big internal struggle was to rough things out on paper and scan it or to go straight digital... well im over it and my work has gotten a lot better since i stopped worrying about process so much and just started "doing it"

you guys really rock for giving me both critique and encouragement.

i will keep burning the midnight oils if you guys do too

this might seem stupid to some of you and it may also mark how inexperienced i am at 3d.... but this was a big moment for me.
ive learned how to unwrap, texture and rewrap a model in maya! this is the first time ive been able to do it with any sort of success. in school we learned how to model in maya (i was in the first class ever offered for game design in my school) but we never got into texture.
today i said... try the most simple thing you can. A BOX!!!
it actually worked and I was able to learn how to do it on my own. no help no teacher just sitting down and doing it.
so yes this may seem stupid and like a small accomplishment but it opens the door to a lot of new work i can do now. expect a lot of low poly models to accompany my concept paintings.

    then its on to rigging
