    StarbonesCoffin's Sketchbook

    July 13 2007

Hello there, I'm new here and I wanted to draw.I am 14 years old (15 on 11th October 2007).I never draw since yesterday which i tried once to draw after a night i had a dream, that i promised someone that i would draw the person into an art.I hardly had promises, so I promised myself to draw the person until i get right.

Heres a cat that i drew, i'm new with scanning. So i just don't know how.I just draw and scan draw and scan.Well, i hope you do enjoy it.I don't take classes nor ever draw before this ones.Ohh yeah, theres this guy, i drew, actually doesn't look like my friend.I can't draw people using model, but i can draw directly using my head.Argh ! I only got mechanical pencil that i use for writing at school and a book.

    hi

Your proportions are good. the two big drawings at first are good.
For someone who never learned drawing you're great.

post other stuff and get some books like drawing on the right side of the brain , Betty Edwards

or get the andrew loomis books available over the web

    what zou said!
Nice start for your age and background.
Get good paper, and real drawing pencils if you
haven't already. The right tools really make a difference.
You have some nice mark-making going on, check out
drawing books from Vilppu, Bridgeman, Loomis, and the
old masters and COPY their drawings. It's ok to copy
when you are learning. Looking forward to watching
    you advance!

love the sketchbook starting to pan out - should resize those images so it is more pleasing once you get some serious viewer traffic in here

there are edit buttons and then hit "go advanced" once you have some smaller images

If there is an art store close to where you live, stop by and ask
them what brands they carry. Buy a variety of hard and soft pencils
and see what a difference they make.

Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

Try and be a little more adventurous! All your facial pics are frontal shots, try some pics from different angles. Why post a pic of a pretty girl if you're not going to draw her. Time to push yourself!

    hi there,
really nice work considering you haven't been at it for long! My advice is keep up the anatomy studies, they will help you create fantasy figures too. Other things people that told me are: for drawing fantasy creatures like dragons, use existing or pre-exisiting references (animal skeletons or dinosaurs) to help you build them, then let your imagination loose to 'mould' your own creature. That's what I am trying to do myself alongside anatomy studies

For pencils I usually use HB or 2B, if you are still looking for some. Of course it depends on the artist though. Just buy a set from an art shop and try out what you prefer

    Insanity is the key!
Also, studies are a key. And passion is a key. Also, so are inspiration, motivation and dedication. Talent can be a key. Insomnia can also be a key, depression is a sad rusty little key. Damn, artists need one hell of a keyring.

You have interesting and nice style. Try to do more figure/anatomy/proportions studies. I suggest u andrew loomis. And study shading abit. Oh and btw check my sb sometime, i'd like to get and comment from u.

Considering you just started this is pretty amazing, you have very good lines.

Others are saying it but I will repeat, study proportions and keep posting. Look at other people's SBs, everything with 5 stars here is generally really good and serves for inspiration.

The Tifa girl, is that you? Or is that the person you promised to draw?

You're off to a great start, don't be depressed by crits you get here, people tell these things to help you get better.

    Love them dragons
They'd look really good shaded aswell. I like the technique you used on the dark elf guy at the top ^_^ Keep it up!

Hey Starbones, these are very nice, they show great imagination! My advice would be to study anatomy a bit, it'll give your pictures that extra element of realism. By the way, I've updated my self portrait thread, feel free to take a look and tell me what you think.

Lookin great, just gotta keep up the daily drawing. And dont get too down on the scanning thing, I have rare access to a scanner so many times I have to photograph my work! You'll get the hang of it tho, just remember to draw. And I also would suggest what my colleagues have above: Get some anatomy books, and there a some amazing ones for free online, Loomis, Vilppu, Hamm, and parts of Hogarth as well... they are invaluable. Keep up the great work and if you need help just ask, there are always people around on CA...
