    -------------------------
    DEADLINE
    SUNDAY, JULY 15

The way the deadline works: if deadline is on a Sunday and your image is posted on that Sunday 23:59 your local time it's a good entry.
In fact - as long there is Sunday somewhere on the planet your entry is ok. I will make the poll sometimes Monday afternoon my time (GMT +2) yet i'll have a look at the last entries.

    --------------------------

    Intergalactic Bohemian Troubadour

    .
Feel free to interpret in any way, BUT note the following:
    1. Must include at least one uniquely designed musical instrument of some sort.
    2. Must include a sidekick, groupie, or some sort of secondary that plays musical accompaniment. This is open to interpretation, but I want to emphasize that it is a separate entity of some sort.
    3. May include background, but the important thing is uniqueness of the character design and thought process. I want to emphasize CONCEPT more than anything... it should be distinctive and not easily interpreted as something other than a creature(s) that travels and makes music.

I think this should be fun... the Bohemian Troubadour part of the topic has some very specific connotations, but the Intergalactic part is very much the wild card.

BE PROFESSIONAL - only finished and good quality entries will be taken to the poll. The host will make the selection.

DON'T FORGET YOUR PRIZE! THE WINNER OF THIS ROUND WILL SELECT THE TOPIC OF THE NEXT ONE!

And will assist me in selecting the entries for the poll. In one week we'll have a new client.Vote him now

Hey guys, not exactly sure how this works as I haven't gotten any messages or PM's from the moderators, though I've contacted Oblio already. However, I already have an idea in mind in case some of you want to start thinking about it already... every extra bit of time helps:
    Intergalactic Bohemian Troubadour.

Bringing back a creature I intended to use for another CHOW and never even came close to finishing. He'll be playing some kind of upright string instrument in the final. My main inspiration is this guy, who I saw perform once at a cafe in Northampton, MA. At one point in the show, his instrument started billowing smoke which set off the fire alarm. Great show.

Going well, I think. I didn't even realize when I chose the overall character design that the horns on the chin kind of suggest a goatee. Not to worry; shadows and highlights to come.

Awesome, I knew I was going to run into a turtleneck at some point. I live in San Francisco, so the subject is very much inspired by this place. Is that a harmonica-type instrument ?

I was thinking more along the lines of some type of woodwind type instrument rather than a harmonica, but hey, all good.

    And yeah, turtleneck

Performing this week only at the CHOWdown Lounge, "ZingDingo".
With the soulful sounds of Sigma 9, and the Jazzy Beats off the Venusian Streets.
Come see what the universe is talking about before they move on yet again!

Well, The argument I recall is that a Chow is a somewhat cearly defined individual, where a COW is a somewhat generic member of a species.

indications of personality and intelligence usually go a long way in differentiating, if that makes sense.

cow is verry strict not to have humanoid things (human arms and legs etc) also no items such as clothes or guns or anything like that is allowed, cow is not about personalety CHOW on the other hand is.

and in that way they are verry different, chow is all about character, and personalety and guns and clothes and amo and sexapeal etc.

Don't know if i'll have time to finish, but here's a WIP. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I like smooth jazz, so I was thinking about an alien character that travels the galaxy, playing seedy jazz venues. I'll include a groupie on the side later. I dived right into painting this time around, with just a rough sketch to figure out the forms.
    Updated WIP:
CHOW#80 - Guest Host: jubjubjedi Topic: Intergalactic Bohemian Troubadour
    Here's my final entry:
CHOW#80 - Guest Host: jubjubjedi Topic: Intergalactic Bohemian Troubadour
His name is Obou, and he plays the quasiphone, a similiar instrument to the saxiphone, but able to produce higher pitch sounds. In fact, human audiences are warned to wear earplugs, because the high notes have been known to blow human eardrums. He travels the galaxies, playing seedy intergalactic jazz joints, where he is much reveered for his Earth-style jazz.

I had fun working on this, and I'm sure others did too. It was a nice break from so many weeks of dark-themed CHOWs. I enjoyed seeing so many interesting takes on this week's character. Keep up the good work guys (and gals). Very inspirational work all around.

I really wish I had time for this topic! Have fun with it. For all those doing aliens, be sure to pay special attention to anatomy and, if possible, use a reference.

Woodlandwalker: Great dynamic and lines. I like it a lot.

Rodriguez: Very nice start. I was about to say that you might consider finishing out as a pencil drawing but then realized you weren't doing pencil. At any rate, you might consider spending the time you'd use on color doing additional rendering and values instead. Just a thought. This one's easily the best I've seen you do in the short time I've been here.
Take a look at my series of in-depth critiques, like this one of Salvador Dali's hidden portrait of Lincoln.

Scott's Sketchbook: Check out my sketchbook. Will swap C&Cs.

It is a tough life to be a singer. Slek and his pet Tuch hitchhike their way around the galaxy, wherever life takes them.

Tuch : I dont think he likes you.
