The crystal stuff is comong along nicely. It is not an easy thing to render. I like the epic stadium up top also. Keep up the good work.

    DARAF, D@niel, thanks!

also thought i'd put this up since its relevant to my sketchbooks purpose, I recently agreed to take a modeling test even though i don't really know much about modeling or texturing lol so I pretty much had to learn maya in a week, however i'm quite happy with it as a first attempt, they loved my 2d work but felt I need a little more knowledge with 3d apps, I'm sure you all will agree with them haha.

Im really loving the crystal stuff as well...its a funky environment inside the large spire of the lower region...nice scale reference

I suppose your latest object has a normal map generated from the high poly one? Its hard to see it on your model...I've always had troubles getting normal maps to display in the package compared to 3Dsmax where it shows up more dominantly. Nice job for learning what you have in a week!

jdeegz- yea after trying to get my foot in the door for so long, I've realized that an artist that can draw and model their creations is of much more value than one that can't. anyway heres another environmental, came out of know where last night. got bored of what i was working on and started playing with a stair concept and came up with this

Jakers- hehe yea the normal map didn't turn out so well lol, when I read the brief and it said the normal map should be baked in from the high res model i was like "WHAT?!!" but getting the hang of it now. thanks for the comment by the way

That's too bad about the job interview. Your work is really strong. Looking through them, I was sure that you would be working in the industry already. Have you ever thought of doing other work besides concept art? Your skills and talent already speaks for itself. Great work and thanks for commenting on my sb. That video game zombie spooked the hell out of me.

gkrit- hehe thanks, I think I still have a long way to go though
tias- yea it did, just gotta keep trying though, the challenge is actually pretty fun and exciting, once I get a job its gonna be about buckling down and showing them what I can do, but for now i'm enjoying the learning experience. I was so happy today cause my dream company actually spent the time to write a full page of advice for me and it was so helpful, i was flattered that they did that for me. most companies I apply to cut off communication as soon as they decide i'm not right for the job and i never get to find out what i did wrong or how I could improve.
Nadiamoon- thanks, that was a fun one to work on
Ios- I appreciate it, i'm used to people saying the exact opposite most of the time lol
Farvus- thanks, still might add more to it eventually.

heres a piece thats almost finished, any crits? I have one day to fine tune it

Lovely suff. Your building landscapes and perspectives look really solid and impressive. You do warm, hazy atmospheres very well. The mushroom stack piece a few pages back is one of my favorites.

    maeshanne- thanks, me too
Munin Raven- ah cool, cause the mushroom piece was from my dream and I woke up and tried painting it as quick as possible while trying to render out all that I could remember and used a lot of speedy techiques I don't usually use so i'm glad it seemed to be successful

update on the crystal arena piece:

hunchbackmagee- I seem to be popular on epilogue heh heh, anyway thanks!
    Arbinn- sure no problem
hp-they thanks! sure, it might be fun posting a step by step of that one cause I did some experimenting with it, although I can't promise its a very efficient way to work lol

    1. started with a greyscale to quickly block in some shapes and values.
    2. washed in some quick color with a color layer, wasn't to worried about accuracy cause I wanted to see how the texture would affect the colors.
    3. dropped in a texture.
    4. lightened the top portion and erased some of the texture.
    5. duplicated the texture and flipped it.
    6. lassoed and adjusted portions of the texture to get some better colors.
    7. started adding in some details.
    8. more details and refining.
    9. final details and adjustments

went fairly quick, but could have been far more efficient if I had planned my colors ahead of time

Awesome pieces, man. I especially like the one with the guy playing the video game in his room. Great work cramming all those zombies or possessed people outside his window. What's the game on the PC monitor, by the way, Fable?

jdeegz- well I have a few but this particular dream company was Insomniac... and i'm definitely working on those adjustments

Christoffer- thanks, I've had a lot of comments on that piece on other sites and its pretty funny cause half are like "thats me!" and the other half is like "games are evil!" lol and the game on the computer is a super secret mmo

Clochette- yea I kinda do to, I noticed after I had posted up the progress shot that, that version looked nice

    CUBICcube- thanks, have fun

    MonkeYoakum-

Reject-D- heh heh thanks! I had 5 stars for like a week lol but someone obviously disagreed lol, oh well I'll just have to work harder

a figure sketch, the anatomy is probably off, well actually i know the anatomy is off but I was just experimenting and another room piece for a client.
