I have been asked to do a fan service for a friend. The first sketch looked odd so I struggled with the pose and here's the result.

This is probably the longest time I've ever spent on a digital painting. It's a personal achievement for me because I tend to rush things and lose interest really fast.

It is also my first time I'm disciplined enough to push myself this far.

I like what I see in here Night. Though I think you should work a lot harder on your colors, you are making progress. Do some color studies by picking a couple of compatible colors and making sure they blend and mesh well. Then pick some flesh colors and make those mesh well. Keep at it and I'll be checking in on ya here and there.

    Nice Work

Hey, whats up? Its me chaz. Your mech drawing is much nicer online than in real life. I like the faded buildings in the background, though i think making them all similar sizes kind of flattened the background. Also, I think maybe the strength of the lighting makes the overall composition a bit heavy in the bottom right.
I really like the first piece. It may be just my taste, but like everything about it: the strong focal point created by the haze, the lighting, and the eyeball in the drawing; the interesting layered texturing that draws your eyes back out from the focal point and around the picture; just the general color and mood and crazy/creepy feeling about it; good work man.
Finally, as far as drawing faces are concerned, i believe you should carefully study the structure and angles/planes of the skull, think about layering the skin and muscle over it, and sketch wrinkly old people, that helped me get a good impression of how wrinkles and expressions distort the face. I only know what helps me out, hopefully my advice helps.
Well Gerald, you've grown and gotten a lot better in the couple o years ive known you, so keep it up man.

here i was ready to preach about shit and you had to go and get better by the end of your thread.....i guess all i can say is keep up the good work.

oh i got something, with regards to figures, or attempting to draw some one elses works. i started doing this when i was a freshmen in college to get down the forms and strokes better; tracing paper. trace the dame thing like four times then try to draw it from memory. you will be amazed at how much you strokes will fill out the form better, and much more you will understand how the masters doodled. (yeah i said it, masters doodled)

    slainte!

shankara Yeah i'm trying my best to grow as an artist

Broa(V)alia heh welcome to CA chaz! Well the first piece wasn't planned really. It was some random shite that was put together. As for faces, I'm still working on it-definitely getting on the right track. Hard part is capturing expressions. Couple of years? I think it's only a year lol

Flipnastywebby Well you can always preach about shit Hmm I might give the tracing thing a go, sounds really helpful. The more we do it the more natural it becomes right?

    Slainte!

hey ya maybe a year. n e way ya xpressions are hard to pin down with authority.
that last piece you posted is coming along nicely. i dont know about the girl's face being in perfect profile, though. theres also an issue with the alien tentacle-head-thing, it looks really good, and its very crisp and detailed, especially the slobber drippin out. the problem i think is that its more in the bg, while ur foreground is still sketchy and a bit unrefined. if you could bring those crisp, clean details to the foreground, it would give more depth, and help w/ the fp. speaking of witch im confused about what the fp is, the monster or the girl? lol ill get my stuff up here soon enuff and then you can pick it apart in retaliation

your drawings are coming along nicely, the figure work especially. i would really work on your faces, they are really hurting your overal work. i have been doing studies from hogarths book on how to draw the human head and it has really helped (though i am still no expert). also, keep up with the master copys i can already tell your color is improving.

chaz yeah sure, when you come over

themissinglink we had a class on drawing the head/face today and it was really cool. You're right about my faces needing more TLC but I've noticed some improvements from my old head/face drawings-just need to keep at it eh?
..and speaking of Hogarth, my figure drawing teacher Keith Wicks was actually a student of his. Keith told us that Hogarth would take a look at your drawings up on the wall, and he would rip it down if he didn't like it. Pretty trippy stuff
