Not sure I'm doing. I'm doing this by randomness.

Finding time this week is proving difficult. I have a few thumbs but nothing fleshed out. I really like stophs comp. Peter john's got a nice idea as well. Ads and yiit have nice concepts going too. I like the ideas that involve the two characters working together. The whimsical, fun aspects seem to be working well. I hope I can put together something.

Do they have to use fishing rods?

Do they have to be human (i realise i could add other animal features to give the impression of a human, but still, is not human)?

Soz guys i'm out, just didnt have the time this week. A bloody shame coz this is one of the most interesting topics to date. Taking a normal job and putting it out of context is a great way to think up new ideas. Hope we get some more like this.

Marking my territory. I predict lots of dirigibles.

Update: Preliminary sketch of one of the characters. The rules don't preclude aliens, do they?

    CHOW#78 - Guest Host:AndrewLey Topic: Sky Fishermen

Anyways, my take on sky fishing is a variant on an actual technique called kite fishing (pretty much what it sounds like). Anyways, in this interpretation of sky fishing, a small bait fish is hooked on a line which is looped through a carefully weighted balloon which acts kind of like a bobber. The bait fish swims out away from the boat, but isn't strong enough to dive deeply. Only when a game fish attacks the bait fish does the ballon dip noticeably. At this point, the fisherman sets the hook and reels the fish in. With the fish brought in, another hand grabs the line with a boat hook, attaches it to the winch, and brings the fish on board.

Update 6/27: Decided to go with a flying ship after all. The idea is that, with the fish reeled in, they lock the line in place, then drop some ballast to hoist the fish out of the water where they can then bring it onboard.

This sounds like the story could also be some kind of matchwinner.
So better think this one through carefully.......

    Rainbow Fishers

    i like this week's topic
my concept is more toward a concept for a game/RPG, a race you can meet in the storyline as plot device or for other uses

    concept sketches
    CHOW#78 - Guest Host:AndrewLey Topic: Sky Fishermen

    concept : Rainbow Fishers
They live in their buoys in cloud tops. They are kind and docile in nature, but they are more aggressive when they fish. Travelers and adventurers call them rainbow fishers because when the fishers fly by, if you are lucky you can see flashes of beautiful colors. A small community, they rely on fishing various sky flyers to sustain themselves. A job as a fisher is considered noble in their society. Meeting a sky fisher is a rare thing to happen, and they are one of many legends told among adventurers

thx to my crappy skills, a nice final render will be tons of work for me to do
