John Foster recommended Oil Painting Secrets from a Master by Linda Cateura.
I just purchased a book called Blue and Yellow Don't Make Green by Michael Wilcox which is an excellent book on figuring out how to mix colors and getting the colors you want and not making mud all the time.
    Both are available from Amazon.com.
    Hope this helps.

Yeah "Oil Painting Secrets From A Master" is one of the best books you can get.... David Leffel is incredible...
Some art stores carry the book. You can usually get it for pretty cheap too... around $20 or less

My portrait painting teacher also highly recommends a book by Robert Henri..."The Art Spirit". It's not really an instructional book though

    Good Luck,
    Wes

No real "painting" book but imho VERY helpful: "Facial Expression" by Gary Faigin. In my own rating definitely a 10

I'm reading Gregg Kreutz' "Problem Solving for Oil Painters" at the moment and I'd recommend it to both digital and traditional painters. It answers the typical question of "Why the hell isn't this looking right/good?". Many nice-lookin examples of his own as well. Give it a shot, you won't regret.
