what type of paper do you use? and how do you hold your pencil?
if i had to guess i'd say these are a hb~4b on hotpress finish paper or some smooth somewhat heavy paper, and photoshopped to clean...

polyester (pronto) plate litho is a heck of a lot cheaper and safer. aphotic phoenix suggested non-toxic toray printing as an alternative awhile back. both are worth looking into.
