Jon Foster for Digital Painting (in Painter)!!!
Hello, my name is Michael J. Williams. I'm a freelance illustrator interested in the fantasy, horror and young adult genres, and have done work for book covers, comic covers, RPGs and CCGs.
great idea for a thread-much needed.
here is a link to Chris Beatrice's site where he has some Painter brushes for download:
this WILL suck and david hockney will probably be one of the judges.
the point is no one should work for free.
other artists that think this is an acceptable practice and participate in this type of free work are the ones that are ruining the industry and hinder the ability of the rest of us to be able to...
it's all about shapes and values.
very strong piece, jason.
i love the exaggeration, and the change in tone where the stubble is is great.
nice colors and crisp rendering as well.
if you don't mind me asking, what are you using...
no question the oil one is stronger imo.
i'm a digital guy myself, but the oil piece has so much more life and character.
you seem to have put alot more into the oil painting as well, but the...
i don't know, i'm starting to really prefer using Daz Studio and/or Poser for stuff like this. Daz Studio is a free app and comes with some free 3d models. not as easy to pose and light as quickly as...
the $100 registration fee is if you want to be a venue, not for artists. for artists to enter it's $50. http://artprize.org/artist-apply
good points. the need to make the trek is really a downside to this that i didn't think about.
i think it is more about the town than about art in general unfortunately.
here are some of faq's if...
a breakdown of the monetary awards for those curious:
1st place: $250,000
not sure if any of you have heard of this yet, but it's been a big deal in my town, since it's being held where i live.
it's the largest art prize competition in...
i'd be interested to know what wotc pays per magic card.
looks like a must buy to me!
i'd personally like to see him back, but am sure the powers that be had their reasons. but i do miss him around here.
thanks so much jason and ca! great idea.
one little thing i just noticed...
it seems like the search comes up with usernames as copyright holders instead of actual names, which is understandable,...
i just wanna reiterate that Corel, Wacom and Adobe are all perfect ideas. haven't seen anyone mention the people at Daz (daz3d.com), as they might be a good one, as well as Smith Micro Software...
hey max, i have their art office number if you want it. send me a pm and i can give it to you.
i'm terrible without refs, period.
but, not many people can do very well even with great refs, so you got a one up on them.
in art school, we had a class where you concentrated on rendering, and...
great movie. i gotta see it again, along with iron man-which was a TON of fun.
dark knight was immersive and takes the character where it should've been in the first place movie-wise imo.
great stuff as usual dan.
i really like the girl in the rain one.
the hellboy painting is great in terms of rendering, lighting, etc, but the composition was a big let down for me. :(
i love the your mark making on the drawings. very cool and unique.
it's seems to be translating well into paint for you as well with that new one you posted.
keep it up!
