Wow, it's been forever and a day since I updated this sketchbook.
Here's a study I just finished this morning:
I've been working on this so here are several updates. Thanks goes out to pindurski for sending me some feedback!
Typefaces to be used for print & web projects
Received some feedback elsewhere so here's an updated version:
So I'm a self-employed graphic designer and this year, I want to rebrand use Maiden & Whelp Design. Originally, my husband & I were going to team up and do business together but decided not to do...
I'm leaning towards the beige version but I like how the bottom shapes in the green version almost disappear, allows the girl to stand out a bit more and maybe even add a bit of depth.
[WIP] Grayscale figure study
Maybe try bringing in a cool color? Like blue? Those globs could be red globs or blue globs! Also, when you start working with lighting, use cooler colors for the areas in shadow.
As for her...
It's obvious the boat and the men are the focus of this painting but the clouds do stand out with incredible rhythm. They seem to come alive.
You're off to a good start! The first study, however, is unfinished. I would spend a few more minutes on that background. Also, the faces in both studies are a little longer compared to the original....
Wanted to take a break from all the master studies and do something for a friend's birthday.

Instead of working section by section, start with the whole hand and object. Block in the darkest areas and the lightest areas. Furthermore, I would pay more attention to anatomy. Something about...
Thanks Ryan! Yeah, definitely need more work on my line confidence. Practice practice practice!
pindurski is spot on, for real. I would suggest creating as many thumbnails sketches as you can. Pick at most 3 of the best sketches and refine them even more on paper. Then, take those 3 and...
Beans are fun to draw. :3
Rachel - Jules Joseph Lefebvre
This is a great example of the "economy" principle. Her face is the focus, therefore it's very detailed but her head wrap, hair, and dress almost disappear...
I'm curious about your workflow and why it's stagnant to you. What's your process for working on a design project? Maybe we can help point out what you're missing.
A color & value study for a portrait of my OC, Sirana a blood mage. I'm not that overly excited about it right now. Maybe I should add a blue in there somewhere or try a different sort of lighting.
Thanks Jason. I work in 25 minutes chunks and then take a 5 minute break. Maybe I'll use that break to assess what I have so far.
Moving rather slowly I know so I'm going to finish this assignment...
Hi! Love your style. :)
Very impressive Morningbloom! And wow, Bouguereau studies are definitely hard. Great work!
I don't know why I'm being so inconsistent!
Jason - Woo that's a relief. Can you elaborate on what you mean by overworked, though?
Dayle - Appreciate it! I've actually read to start with darks and then lights but my issues is I tend to go...
