The lighting in my room was quite low thanks to the sun being right outside my window behind soft fluffy clouds. I wanted to be economical in this. Make your strokes count!

Big post! Best thing I could recommend is use a more opaque brush and focus heavy on your shapes, then your values and then your edges in that order! Keep working hard =]
Nice study! I would say watch out for your shapes, the dogs head in particular is much bigger in your drawing. Awesome stuff! =]
