Various bits and pieces. Small shapes study in colour 10x12 on board (still wet), which would as well have been in black and white for all the difference doing it in colour made, a half finished...
Really liked the mood and colours in this one. The original has more contrast but the colours in the shadows got lost - bad reproduction maybe?
Some random pen doodles from imagination and a figure study from photo.
Just a head study today. Reference courtesy of Mike Coombes.
Thanks Frozen! You rock too :)
Never thought of adding digital stuff to one of my landscape paintings. I might try it sometime, just for the hell of it, lol.
Hey Dennis, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!
You're working hard and I see lots of progress, though you're heading off into animation which is something I know eff all about so cant really...
A small sketch from life and an oil study from photo.
Haha, love those t shirt ideas. You should add a joint to the driver's hand in "Smoke Em". Then it would be perfect.
Really cool sketchbook! I love everything, but especially the skeletons and anatomy work. Your perspective stuff is fantastic too, even though it all goes way over my head.
Great stuff all round....
Wow, cool bananas! Definitely going to pick this up.
Hey, congratulations on your baby boy!
Love coming in here and seeing your sketches - they're so confident and accomplished. It reminds me I need to work harder on my own stuff.
No crits, just...
Thanks, Benedikt, totally agree. I got bogged down painting details on the mountain when I should have kept it loose and focused on the dragon. I'm realising that my bad eyesight makes me worry I...
Thanks, Dahlia. you're right about the composition - none of them are great. I just got caught not developing the idea enough initially so had to try fix it halfway through. I'm not going to make...
Latest attempt at a dragon, loosely inspired by The Hobbit's Smaug.
Final version along with some composition thumbnails.
Well, here's the finished version. Think it still needs work getting the dragon to read better as it's getting a bit lost at the moment, but I need a break from it. Might sort...
Yeah, I was thinking the same. Three has the best balance but two draws attention to the dragon. I'll probably go with two as it needs to be a painting of a dragon rather than a landscape with a...
What the title says. I'm working on a painting and need some quick input on which version works best.
Various pen sketches and a small still life in ink and watercolour. Again, apologies for the bad photos - really must get some kind of scanner sorted out.
Seeing good progress in here and I'm glad to hear you're checking out Bridgman etc. Was going to suggest him and Michael Hampton's Constructive Anatomy to help you think in 3d when it comes to...
Thanks Korzen, thats good advice. I think I'm too tentative still with tone, form etc, and really need to just stop worrying and go for it.
Will try to apply your suggestion in future.
My god, the internet really is chock full of freaks.
First painting of my new town - the river Clyde just up from New Lanark. Done in oils from photo reference.
First life drawing in about ten years and a spit paint - crow god. Sorry for the crap photos - I'm no photographer, oops!
