First off, keep practicing. You're doing a good job!
Secondly, don't be afraid to push those values, make a clear distinction between light and dark. Not everything has to be as soft as possible.
Hope you're doing better by now.
Stop playing it so safe when you're working on your art. It's not an infant. Go hard. Knock out the shadow play at the first go, 30minutes tops, then add colors on...
Nice evolution since you dropped out from CA 2 years ago.
I love the stone studies you did!
Bootes's dead king looks really good, try and push it to a finished piece as a poster or album art?
the comic has some really cool linework, good job!
The faceless look cool as well, I'm working on something similar and it reminds me of James Jean's work.
Try smoothing out the faces and work with...
I have been gone for a long while but I miss having a community to check into.
Here's some of the stuff I've done lately.
Made a new oil study, finished it with some graffiti
But I don't like the way you render them. The pencil sketches seem to ooz this sort of darkness and your rendering takes the piece the complete opposite way....
Damn, this is a nice sketchbook!
I want to give you some critisism but you're nailing almost everything, I'd soly advice you to try some different styles and experiment with other approaches.
Those last sketches really show the inspiration you got by the DVD, they're way better than you previous sketches.
i would love to see you work with some more subtle color variations...
Your latest sketch tells a cool story but I think you could have gone for a better composition.
Also, the poses of the characters lack a sort of action feeling, there's no sense of real motion. The...
Made an oil study of my hand/tattoos 3 hours, oil on wooden panel 25x30cm. Used the opportunity to test some new mediums.
Hey Kenneth, cool to see some other belgian people starting out :)
Just like Qitsune said, draw from life.
You'll learn most when you focus on stuff in the real world, use those books to sharpen up...
Hey tr79, I'm from Belgium (Ghent) I organize sketch meetups in the city, you should drop by when you get the chance!
I'll send you a PM with some details.
Made these 2 last weekend. The colored one doesn't seen as if I made it, too high skill level :p
A Burlesque show was in town last night, had a blast with friends and half naked ladies.
Lucarky Thanks :) I hope I can keep on pleasing you
TheGrayslayer: Thnx for the feedback! It is unfinished, I know most of my work is :) I will try to push myself to complete something...
n1frit Thnx and YW :)
thegrayslayer I know, still working on it
Me,Myself & Me again THnx, although they span over a couple of years
Just finished another painting, had no idea what I wanted...
Yes, just diffuse. I was practicing on handpainting textures, you include the lightening and highlights in the texture. This way you don't really need a shader to render, just put the model on 100%...
Cool stuff dude, is the game for real or just a proof of concept?
WHen doing portraits, pay close attention to the eyes, you tend to make alot of mistakes with them. And they do make or break a...
Love the last sketch's feeling of volume, great tits!
But you goblin's texture is aweful, the same green hue all-over?
Mix his skintones up with other greens, give him some yellow spocs or...
I've seen that image on FB a while back, great image!
Did you use any photomaterial while creating this one?
Peace! - Matt
keeptime: Thanks, I'll do my best ;)
Ogirdor_P Thanks for the kind words of encouragement!
Last sunday I organized a sketch meet-up with a couple of other artists, had a lot of...
Try visualising the face in planes when doing a portrait, this will help with proportions and getting the volume right.
Also stop drawing lines on the edges of features. For example the top of the...
Haha, I do think that your last paint involves a tiger and not a bear (as the comment above states)
The confusion is understandable, cats have really distinctive shoulderblades (espcially when they...
Those greyscale studies look really good, I'm impressed!
