I'm trying to force myself to become less dependent on photo references by drawing a few comic-style sketches like these every day, from imagination, which means I'm making errors in anatomy and...
I tried coloring a couple of sketches from reference again. Lately I've also made more attempts drawing from imagination. I include one such sketch as well.
A few more pictures drawn with photo references. The colours were, however, picked from imagination. Sort of.
Thanks for the kind words, Icedearth. I feel a little bit too dependent on photo references sometimes, though, so I should practice more on drawing from imagination.
Hello. New participant here. This is my version:
Here's a picture I drew for the DSG.
I got the same impression from looking at your pictures.
I haven't found any either. Ah, well. If I order now I guess I'll get it next year ... Thanks for your answer, though.
That's interesting. I've heard about the wax, and I was wondering how well it handles really tiny details. It would be great fun trying it.
Have you found some store in Europe that sells it, or...

Anyway, here's a Genestealer from the Warhammer 40k universe:
Big heads though.
I think the composition is a bit confusing. The guy in the back is thrusting his sword through the other guy's chest, right? And he's still holding the sword? Then shouldn't his arm be visible...
Your life studies look really solid.
A few 20-minutes sketches before it's time for bed.
I did find time to do two more drawings after all.
I will tell you no such thing. Thanks for giving advice. I don't know if I have time to try the tonal range thing this week, but eventually I will. The greater the tonal range gets the harder it is...
I decided to take a break from the martial art guys and nude girls and do something completely different ... like a martial art girl.
Interesting and inspiring SB. I like the way you try out different media. The little sketches from everyday life look great, and your colour paintings make me want to practice my non-existent skills...
Mid-tone practice session.
Attempt number one, another martial arts guy. This didn't work at all:
Attempt number two, random nude chick. Slightly better.
Thanks. Well, I used to think about the mid-tone background thing, but then I stopped for some reason, and I don't think I ever really gave it a try. So I think I'll make a few attempts this evening...
Very convincing gesture (if that's the right word - I'm not a native English speaker) on the girl with sword and pistol. I couldn't come anywhere near it without references and painstaking labour.
Thanks, koof! For some reason I seem to be getting better results when I start from a black background and then focus on highlights than when I try other methods. But I'm going to learn how to use...
Puddles looks like a sweet little creature, but you don't need to hide him behind that copyright text to protect him from theft.
Photo references used, as usual.
A few quicker sketches this time.
Reference from the first Alien vs Predator-movie:
Two pictures by Christopher Hart used as references:
A few GW-miniatures on my table:...
I'm a bit concerned about her posture. Maybe it's the slanted ground that confuses me, but when I look at her legs I get the impression that her left leg supports nearly all of the weight, which...
