Thanks Minella. :D
Bug concepts. I'm so used to working on technical skill and studies it's a struggle to work with the creative and imaginative. Also rather humbling.
And by "rather" I mean...
In the middle of doing a bigger piece I've been procrastinating on for two months because it's that goddamn scary. Probably reaching too far out of my comfort zone here. Bleh.
... Can't get the...
I wouldn't call that successful. Successful to me is good-looking colours. The art is good, but the colours aren't. They're not lifelike at all.
I mean, colours don't have to be an oversaturated...
Have to agree with this. A desaturation layer really helps.
Also, even if the masters did it, it still looks terrible.
Let's see you stretch your comfort zone a bit -- your girls are gorgeous but they're all you draw!
Have to agree with everyone else: painting colour over greyscale looks horrible.
Misty Feather: Thanks! :D I've been drawing plenty, just not uploading. Oops.
xAscent: Oh wow, thank you so much! Aaaaa that made my day to read!
ART DUMP AHOY.
Life has gone by...
My dog is obsessed with our ferrets. One time I was holding our albino ferret and our dog shoved her muzzle in the ferret's face, so the ferret bit her. :P My dog was scared of white ferrets for...
Wow, so many helpful replies. Thank you to everyone who responded!
There was a stage where I stopped drawing because I believed this was the case -- that I was drawing because I wanted to make...
Whenever I see a list of studies I want to do, I get all pumped up and excited about checking things off the list until I actually put butt in chair, at which point ten minutes in I start fidgeting...
More and more lately I've been hearing artists advise that instead of going to art school you're better off educating yourself at home.
I can't speak for how good those resources you listed are...
I knew a teacher who had an... odd colleague who used to paint pictures using house paint with guns. (Yes. Actual guns.) Apparently after about ten years they started falling apart or something.
*Cracks knuckles* Oh boy, I've spent the last six months doing this in class so I can answer this one for you. That makes me an Expert. (Yes, that's a joke.)
Yeah, if you've got Scott Robertson's...
For me it's like a parallel reality, and my eyes check out. I've "projected" mental images before but not very good at it.
Also I find the better I get at drawing the more vivid my mental images...
Agreed with Black Spot -- rotate it a bit. Do anatomy and gesture on Tuesdays and perspective and colour on Wednesdays, etc. If you try to cram everything in daily, it won't get as much time to sink...
Yeah, Hitler's not an old master.
Neither is Dali, but I reckon out of all of them he'd get himself banned the fastest.
Wasn't Picasso a piece of work as well? Although he's not exactly a...
Hopefully there'll be a new one soon -- I missed the human anatomy one. :(
My mother is actually the crazy ferret lady (10 of them are hers) but I help her with them so often I'm basically the co crazy ferret lady of the house.
This is the best poll I have ever seen.
I have eleven ferrets. That fact won me my first job and starts a lot of conversations.
I hated high school. Loathed it. I wouldn't go back if you paid me, and my experiences were, in spite of being unpleasant, still a lot better than most people's. I still get dreams about it. I still...
It will, but they had to go through the exact same thing.
Make more time. Right now I'm doing 21 hours a week -- 3hrs a day -- and I'm going to step it up later.
That skull looks like it's coming along nicely.
