A "soft brush curse"... I like it. Thanks.
It worked! Thank you!
Yes, Leonor, I use reference. Yet I'm not trying to follow it too close. I use it like a starting point, something to inspire me, give me an idea. The drawing ends up being some sort of...

Beautiful sketchbook. In your last picture it seems there's something funny going on with her arms. They look a bit too small/short to me. I know it's foreshortened but still... Also the blade looks...
Hi. Just wanted to share this blog I stumbled upon http://repinart.blogspot.com/
Thank you, Leonor.
I can't say I use the same construction method all the time. Sometimes I tend to use something like Loomis
I also found Riley's method interesting to experiment with. ...
Hello. After a bit of a break I have decided to draw and paint again. So here's a head drawing
Cole has a blog if anyone's interested http://thecolehole.blogspot.com/
Latest wip has some nice colors. What you could do is soften the edges in the background a bit to make the foreground pop more.
Also while the girl's pose is nice the dude's pose is kinda...

Frankly I kinda like the bright sky in the second one as it is. Concerning where to put contrast you may wanna check out this thread http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=174506
You can try using the same value but separating shapes with different stroke direction. Loomis talks about something like that here:
So I was reading Matthew Innis' blog http://underpaintings.blogspot.com/ (which is great btw) and saw this post http://underpaintings.blogspot.com/2009/06/heritage-illustration-auction-july-15.html...
Cool stuff here. Good job with the self portraits.
To me it looks like you tend to elongate the jaw part in your head drawings a bit, also you place mouths in the middle between the nose and chin....
Duuude. Awesome drawings. Thanks for posting them
In PS brightness doesn't equal value. Lightness(L) is. Think of decreasing brightness as adding black to a color and decreasing saturation as adding white.
You don't suck. It's a nice image
Yeah the tattoo is a bit too hard-edged compared to the rest. Maybe soften it a bit.
I'm not sure there's a need to turn it into a more of 3/4 view. To me it looks...
What are those little dots on her face? Pores? Freckles? Kinda looks like she's sick with something.
Maybe remove them or make them more subtle.
Try out Lin Ran's tutorial http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=148355
Maybe it'll be useful
Another way to do it is to create a layer on top of the colored one, fill it with white and set its blending mode to 'saturation'.
I'm glad you're finding them useful guys.
I made them manually. As for numeric values, here's what I did.
I started with a purest color (100 brightness and 100 saturation) and looked at its...
To me proportions of the original head look alot more natural than those of the maquette you posted. And isn't "ear occupies the same vertical space on the side plane as the distance between eyes and...
Hey, I think there's a mistake here. 4 should be the pectoralis (chest) and 3 should be the latissimus dorsi (back).
There's some great info on edges in James Gurney's blog: http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/2008/06/depth-and-edges.html
And in Stapleton Kearns' blog:...
