You're probably using the 32 bit version of photoshop, it can only use up to 3 or 4 gigs of ram. Switch to 64-bit and you'll be fine.

Hey, good work, one tip for you though, when you're starting in greyscale and you know you want to convert to colour, try to leave some areas loose and don't go to black or white stay in the middle...

Good work so far, keep doing those studies they really do pay off. Just make sure that you apply the knowledge you're getting from them...as they say if you don't use it you loose it. :O
