From the 21st of October I will be leading this online class in creature design.
You can see an interview with me here:...
Wow thats a great effect :D I will certainly take the increased contrast under advisement. Did you use linear burn?
I have attempted to address some of the issues, particularly grounding the lamp bases to the wall. See what you think :)
Thanks for the honest crits :)
I agree that pure black should not be used. I will go back in and lighten them up.
Metal spike shadows are a good spot! I will certainly add those.
Many birrin, being pleasurably susceptible to many of the psychoactive defence compounds found in their planetsí plants, have developed complex rituals around recreational drug use.
Industrialisation of Chriirah has had a dramatic effect on many of the planetsí ecosystems. The equatorial zone of this world, dominated by a vast superheated region named the Kiln, has seen perhaps...
A recent commission, this image depicts arboreal alien creatures called Illiaks repairing a damaged buggy for their more humanoid employers.
Thanks, I like the challenge of creating aliens that might really work :)
Tons more on my DA too :) http://abiogenisis.deviantart.com/
A few new images expanding on the world of the species dubbed the Birrin.
First, the Birrin themselves!

Powerful Birrin societies have engaged in space exploration and exploitation for decades, constructing a number of orbital facilities, satellites, and launching several manned interplanetary...
These ruins represent the height of Birrin pre-industrial engineering, and continue to impress tourists from more recent, technologically complex societies today.

New work uploaded.
Two new ones :)
Has anyone out there had an RSI? If it was successfully overcome, what methods did you use to fix it, and over what time period.
I am particularly interested in the coping strategies used by...
Possible colour variant.
I tried to expand the body for a better sense of balance with this version, as well as general tweaks and polish.
I agree that it may be an unbalanced animal, and I have a few ideas that may help. The first is that it can knuckle walk when not running on the larger pair of claw legs, the second is that although...
Further work on all fronts. Just started experimenting with clouds and patterns on the critters.
Remaining work: Clouds, more interesting ground and general polish on creature and far background.
Further development on the creature, and doing some experiments with possible environments. Still quite early days. Future developments include skin patterns and colors on the alien, and a detailed...
Thank you for the comment :). The current colors are just to jazz up the greyscale I used when designing creatures, and once i have everything in place then I glaze color over the top.
This creature is part of a larger project to visualize alien life from an evolutionary standpoint, you can see another creature from the project here...
Just as a point of interest, a version using Yumikos suggested settings. Of course i still have all versions but quite like how this reads.
An update with the ever unpopular background action removed to see how it reads. And one with nukes :P
