i personally enjoy the strange color scheme of the top one simply because its strange. i think if you want to make it more photorealistic you can just pick colors off an existing photograph of a tree...

i personally love the (almost) complimentary green/red colors. very creepy. but yah i would say to work on the anatomy of his upper body, especially on his right side. feels a little flat.
you've really improved so much from the genesis of this thread. keep going !
