Great start! I like the figure work and gestures sketches, as well as the different views of te little boxy elephant thingie.
And now for a progress shot of some orchids.
Digging the silhouettes.
Went to Seattle and sketched Akhenaten!
More sketches. (I did say I was gonna do 'em in batches.)
1 - Rodent skulls
2- Japanese stone lantern and leaves from Ancient Plants Garden
3- Tree near Moon Viewing Pool in Strybing Arboretum...
I like the portraits as well as your cloud studies. :)
BTW, Iain Banks is TOTALLY worth the read. I sometimes have mad envy that I wasn't born in the Culture. ;)
I like the Bougoureau study in particular. You achieve a great deal with a limited palette.
I really like your charcoal sketches. They've got some lovely texture to them.
BTW, I started with acrylic. I think oil are more forgiving and easier in some respects because the blending is...
I need to do a massive sketchbook dump. So behind the times. I might do these in batches. Basically, I've been going to the local science museum and arboretum here and sketching on weekends. The...
@MeBlackSpot: Yep, I plan on dropping off the color a LOT in the water. Also, this is sort of the mid-range. Gotta work up my shadows and then my highlights.
The older dude in battle gear reminds me slightly of Cohen the Barbarian from Pratchett's Discworld. :)
Working on Fawn and Dag now. Here are some reference shots I have for skin colours, facial features, etc.
Notes: Their bodies are going to have a sharp drop off in saturation, detail clarity, and...
Detail shot of the turtle. (See previous picture...you can see a sketch of the turtle blocked out.)
Oooooo, shiny picture of Delicate Arch. I love Arches. I need to spend an art trip there. :) Anyway, I was there this summer and got a buncha nice shots, some of which I've painted up myself....
Returned to this picture...from 2009. Redid the background. It's still not done, but it's nice to return to it :)
Done from a tutorial in the Digital Painting Technique books by Focal Press.
Pretty pleased with how it turned out.
Earlier this year for my acrylic portrait class, I did some facial studies in charcoal: eyes, nose, mouth, etc. So when I wanted to do some colour studies of the face, lo, the sketches were right...
I really liked these, especially Lin, and I like the general look and feel. I immediately ran out out and linked it to friends. However, one friend pointed out that Isaac is actually dark-skinned, a...
Random sketch of woman, but after playing with the hair colour a bit, I decided that she was Cordelia Vorkosigan in my head. (My husband thinks she's too young to be Cordelia.)
This is the passage...
I like your sketchbook pages especially. Something about your line quality draws my eye to them. :)
First we have a fountain in Seattle. (The one behind the convention center.) And also a value study of a cup on my desk. Not much to say about these. Just trying to push myself along.
Stuff of recentish vintage.
