Yeah, I understand what you mean about my thigs/hips: it's my lack of knowledge... now I'm returning to anatomy books to complete a first glance of ALL :D the body.

Why drawing a lighted sphere besides the figure? It's a kind of mental reference for applying the appropriate tones to surfaces?

I've read the whole thread. Figure drawing manuals people suggested you are some "must-read". I think that "Successful drawing" by Andrew Loomis is another useful book for a beginner.
