Nice to see you're drawing form life. Keep going! :)
the hands are improving already - keep practicing
Since I last posted I finished off 'man with pole' (well as close as I could get in a two-hour class) and I'm well underway with 'reclining nude'. I get another couple of hours to finish this one...
Sorry I've been away for a while - life getting in the way.
Anyway, I've now got a backlog of htings to scan and photograph, so best get on with it eh?
I'm away for a few days and I miss loads! You've been busy :)
Your life sketches are great :)
I'd be interested in seeing some of your limited palette paintings.
Now we know what you look like! Great self portrait :)
Well here's the progress on my oil painting. I'm supposed to finish it next week, the face went wrong, so I've taken it back to a lighter colour for further work.
Oldnoobie: it's on 24 inch by 18...
Love the first oil painting - I know the colours are 'wrong' but they look great anyway.
I think your work needs to make more of the highlights - the self portatrait is very grey. The eggs have a better range of tones.
The renderings coming along nicely, and your anatomy's really progressing :)
and some sketches, just late night doodles :)
Thanks Andy, John and Seedling for your kind words. Here's the latest painting. It's definitely unfinished as we have another two session with the model, so consider this a work in progress :)
The colours help the composition - I 'd never have thought of death in red! :)But I think it works. Repositioning of the old mans arm is good.
Highlight on Death's arm seem a little flat as does...
loads better! :)
Not a bad start on the anatomy. Do lots more!
It's all your fault - your paintings have inspired me and today for the first time ever I will take up the challenge of oil painting. If it all goes horribly wrong I will hold you responsible! :)
Hi again! I think the colour in the first of these pics is the most successful of the two, the background is a good contrast to the gold. The second one is quite scary - that is a very yellow...
I agree nice paint tube :). I don't think the colour of the eggs is necessarily a problem - but the highlights and shadows don't seem consistent.
Hi Aph! Haven't popped in for a while, so it's good to see that you're makiong great progress. The life drawingclass seems to have paid off!
Spazazo - you're right about that last figure's left leg, and it's good to see that you can spot your mistakes. Try correcting it now.
Or try rotating the figure slightly, using a photo-editing...
Thanks old noobie - I started directly with paint. I've found it produces a better (and much larger!) result than if I start with a drawing.
I'm aware of the muddiness issue with oils - but we're...
Nice to see you're back! The first attwmpts at colour seem pretty good - nice shading.
Try moving on from heads now - even if you don't feel you've cracked it. Sometimes it helps to look at the...
I really like this - the shading on the back is reall subtle.
Something odd about the hair though - seems to become a solid bar at the neck. Looks a bit too neat.
