Olá! Bon dia! I just returned from a week of fun in Lisbon, Portugal! Pardon my ramble, but I must....
First of all - continued WOW factor from this collection of interpretations of 'The Escape'. I'm thoroughly impressed and wish that much like MikeC in round 1, there would have been some big battle for Jason Chan....oh well, round 3 will have some treats in store for you Mr. Chan, eh? :)
Second - my hat is off to Sham and Dougbot. Both of you elevated my work. I feel I have succeeded in more ways than one. I had a wonderful group of individuals to have constructive crits with. Thank you so much for all of the support - you know who you are!! I started quite a few concepts and kept revising and tweaking thanks to input. Research was a blast - I think I watched 100+ video snippets on octopuses to understand their behaviors and characteristics. Gathered an insane image collection of my topic. Drank a ton of café and put in a lot of time. :) Had a lot of time to develop and not rush anything. I had moments of doubt, moments of bliss, and moments of serious contemplation of how to proceed next. Each time I updated my piece, it got better and better - all thanks to crits and keeping an open mind. But again, it was Sham and Dougbot that caused me to continue in the mindset I had against my wonderful round 1 competitors (flaptraps and michael see). Thank you for this opportunity to grow in an open and free environment. I have succeeded in growing as a result.
Third - bravo Doug! You took your work in a new direction - realize this new potential and continue to explore. My wife thought you were a shoe-in winner in our round during a brief look see whilst in Lisbon. Your work may feel less than done, but what it has is an easily understood solution to the topic. I thought I had ya by the nose hairs, but Sham used that in his piece. ;) Keep us proud and win round three, Doug! You have a tough round there!! Go Seattle!
Fourth - I sincerely appreciate the crit Sveta! And props to all who gave me a kind nod for the work.
Fifth - I would personally like to learn more about how I could have improved my piece. I open this up to the judges and any competitor/visitor to this thread. Please either PM me or respond in my sketchbook thread. Paintovers are welcome.
