Last Supper (Star Wars)

Hey all. I just finished this project up for Giant Magazine. It was quite a challenge for me, especially trying to get the likenesses to semi-work.
They wanted selected Star Wars characters in the Last Supper. I started out staying really close to the poses in the actual last supper painting
then ended up straying away from them a bit to make the wide range of characters fit.

The gap between Luke and Leia is the gutter of the magazine and it will be cropped off right at the end of yoda.

Denart March 28th, 2005 08:00 PM

Taj March 28th, 2005 08:07 PM

This is awesome.

seriously, i think its safe to assume you did your research to on this because theyre placed perfectley.

davi March 28th, 2005 08:16 PM

hehe great job

Matt Smith March 28th, 2005 08:17 PM

this is a great piece and is really well done.

Gilles March 28th, 2005 08:20 PM

Nice work!

I do how ever have some critigue on Chewbaka (what's his name). His mouth looks kinda weird, like he has a second upperlip. I think Chewie is the only one not really fitting in due to his position and strange large head. On the other hadn, the lighting and rendering in absolutely brilliant!

Coolest concept I've seen all year, no crits <3

Hahah.. Reallly fun Piece...I can't wait for Episode III! The last trailer I saw was Faulking Perfect! To bad most of the ship designs look like a joke! :( (slapped together pieces of Junk!)

I would crit but, I'm sure you are aware of what you would like to do better on the next piece.

thanks for sharring,

-Joshua

Strangely, my life is now complete.

endregan March 28th, 2005 08:36 PM

yes!!

Using the last supper for star wars is a great idea and everyone will get it because of the last suppers infamy...

You did the painting justice!! Excellent cire!!

Your recent work has blown me away.

ycsmt16 March 28th, 2005 09:05 PM

i think it was salvadore dali that did an interpretation of the last supper in a spaceship. the background reminded me of that. and like the others said, i feel strangely complete now...

jfwalls March 28th, 2005 09:16 PM

Maybe this is a dumb question, but what exactly is the article about?

mk. March 28th, 2005 10:04 PM

Funny that you have painted Leila to the right of Luke... i think it was in the Book Davinci Code, where they say it could be a wife on the original painting.

Even if i dont like StarWars this picture is great and funny as hell!

dadamafia March 28th, 2005 10:07 PM

cool beans for that painting.

Noc March 28th, 2005 10:38 PM

on the princess, her eyes look weird to me, they look like shes pissed off, but shes leaning against han like shes in love...

awsome piece though, simply brilliant!

Shouldn't Anakin Skywalker be sitting in Jesus' seat? He was a divine birth afterall (concieved without a father as per Ep #1) and he does "die" and get reborn as another being. Certainly he's not the saviour of the galaxy but he, I'm sure, as Darth Vader believes he is.

Still... a great piece!

deschamps March 29th, 2005 02:08 AM

Wow, Thanks everyone. I wasn't expecting such a positive response!

Verithin: I wanted Darth to be in the jesus seat but I couldn't convince them :nohope:

Noc: Thanks for the Leia comment.

mk. Yeah I figured that was a good spot for Leia being that it is supposedly a female figure there in the Last Supper. The figure to "Magdelana's" right was also an easy choice as Han since they seemed to be interacting closely in the divinci painting.

jfwalls: The article is a celebration of star wars's best moments.

endregan: Thanks bud.

JoshuaTheJames: Yeah right!!! I've got no idea what the hell I am doing... :nohope:

Gilles: hmm, yeah you are right about Chewy's lip. Its one of those things where it looks fine big, but when you shrink it down to web size it looks funny. Crap.

Denart: HAHAHA... I think so!

Thanks again everyone!

Breathtaking, It’s my new wallpaper at work.

Veles March 29th, 2005 06:42 AM

Hehehe :bounce:

A best gift for this Easter.

It doesn't realy look much like Da Vinci's Last Supper (the standing Darth Vader and Chewbacca realy disturb the similaritiy of compositions), but nevertheless the concept is recognised, the idea is great, and the picture is also very well done. Masterful work.

Red_Rook March 29th, 2005 06:50 AM

heeheee
thats awesome, really well done :)

*claps*

I love the idea of Star Wars - Last supper, it's great.

But I'm missing the hand with a knife (lightsaber) coming from nowhere...
