Thanks Havok Reed For your comment and opinion, dont have really the time to change it much, but i keep it for the next one, for now, decided, to get a bit more creative, and simply push it further, on the design i had! its not finished, and the arm is not really fixed, and some ideas still missing, that i ll try to incorporate later..
well as iam used to give some backstory to my characters here it go:
The diamond queen, (in portuguese called "ouros" wich mean "gold"") is the most luxurious and really attached to money, jewels, gold, damonds and such, but because the others queen represent such beatifull things (hearts:love and passion, spades:strenght and fierceness; clubs:nature, and free spirit) se is a bit envy of them, speacially spades and hearts who are seen as superiors, so she digs herself, in her riches, and luxurious things...thats why i designed as a luxurious queen, with a superiority complex, and so self of himself.
In this world every "card character" have a kind of "simbol soul" (his real world card) that if crushed will destroy that card forever, that simbol appears on their backs, and are protected, envolted in the cards simbol,:
so in hearts the card is hidden inside a heart, only piercing weapons can penetrate,
spades, protected by swords: only defeating the sword can acess the card
Clubs: inside a wooden club, only fire can trespass, so only red characters can defeat
diamonds: encased in the strongest diamond: only with the diamond king axe, can you break it, or the ace spade (sword master)
will try to add the hidden card in the diamond later on!!
@mcreation => I think you REALLY improved your design. I like it way much more now! Those couple of things you've changed are very appropriated! Great job :)
Here's my line art. I'm kinda having a hard time with it. I need to change a couple of things before I do the color!
NIZZY G :: no face = awesome sauce I love this design!
ardentsideburns :: a little majin boo but very fun :rocker:
Gailpeta: It's looking great. I'm seeing a Japanese twist in her design that I like.
MCreation: I like where that's going, but I think she's losing some of her silhouette because her dress & the wall are nearly the same hue and value.
My latest WiP.
Had some unexpected time and messed with ideas, particularly the spade arrow shape and hood for a Jack of Spades.
Havok Reed Thanks, saved me there.
mcreation This may just be me but did you use motion blur on the shadow? Might I suggest using Gaussian Blur instead because it's stealing attention away from the actual character. In any case, nice job on the rendering. Love the fabrics.
Anyways, here's the Jack of Hearts all coloured up. Just about there.
IronByte, Metal finger, and ardentsideburn, your designs are really amazing!!! love them a lot!!!
Wow everyone, thanks for the comments!!!
Renart, thank you very much!!! have to thank havok reed for his critiques, it helped!!! in relation to yours the modern aproach is nice, and as that you could add a lot more of "fashion" design to his clothes while maintaining simplicity, and try to incorporate the diamonds better, look for man fashion, or japanese fashion, or the new devil may cry conncepts, there some cool modern stuff you can add and still make it look good, with the crown and cocky atitude!
Smolin thanks for pointing me that, i ll fix it in next wip, or final!! yours is great, but for briefing porposes maybe his cloak must have been black, with silver lining (black because of the clubs card color, silver lining because he his second to king of spades) but hey the goblin aproach is amazing, like it very much!!!
Ironbyte, just now i noticed, you changed your design, or is the jack of spades, just a time free project, and you will stick with the queen of hearts, i like the queen better, not desregarding the jack, of course!!!
Panama 66, yeahh i used motion blur, for some unknow late night reasons, where my brain was half-death, lollolol, thanks for pointing that ou, may reduce opacity too, nice work on your design, but i still feel it lacks black!! try to add some dark details on his armous just as you have made with the "spade horns" maybe on the v on the chest armour, on the shoulder armour, on the crotch part of hip armour, and intercalating on the leg armour, and remove the red, because red is such a strong colour it may lead in the wrong direction, and in the back some grey to dark grey gradient, to push the white forward... well just some ideas!!!
@mcreation: Good job, I like the changes and additions you made. As said before, you did improve upon your previous version quite nicely.
@Smolin: love it! Is that a holy skull grenade!? (Monty Python pun) :b
Nizzy- i think tradtionally the king had a scepter or an orb too, can give you some links later
hey here's another wip, not sure if il have much more time till the deadline he's still got alot of work to go, and im regretting the quilted leather..
mcreation > I enjoy back stories! Her diamond dress design is sexy, and she's holding her ground.
Renart> Really clean lines! His mischievous smile makes me wonder what he's up to.
Smolin> Thanks! Traditional Japanese costumes are historically related to Tang dynasty designs, and I really enjoy them! On top of the King's crown is actually a fresh kill - gory and intimidating!
panama66 > solid armor and fur material create an interesting contrast.
Ironbyte > Jack looks like he's on a mission! The cutout spades and his hood are cool ideas, as well as the arrow tips.
fudgeloaf > very elegant and thoughtful incorporation of diamond shapes throughout the king's armor!
Here's my wip. I have to consciously maintain the oriental design - it could quickly turn to another direction. In old scroll paintings, there's always a stamped signature. I find it fun to mimic that look for the card. Attachment 1703681
gailpeta: Wow earlier on I wasn't sure if I liked your design but seeing it in a more finished state has changed my mind. It's beautiful.
I´m back! I hope I can make it in time D:. An elf queen of hearts.
Hopefully I can finish in time. Working on it now. There are so many great entries its very exciting!!! Any help or critiques are appreciated.
Hey thank you very much @mcreation and @geilpeta! I watched a couple of things about men fashion. I think I' gona put something like a diamond pattern on his shirt. But I' still thinking! I've changed some things on the crown and I did the base colors. I'll probably gonna punch that with a blue light, I don't know! I'll see ^^
OH! Does anyone knows a kinda rapid method to do base color for cartoony designs? Because I separated my line art on another layer to be able to play with it and do some pale lines after but with the technique I'm using, it's pretty long to do the color beacause I don't know another method then paint it by hand!
This is my first time participating in conceptart's contests so I'm really new to everything. Heart queen work in progress... Still gotta add something more "royal" in the picture. Wanted to draw pin-up stylish heart queen. :)

Here's another update! I did a little bit of lighting and texturing. I still need to work on it but it beggin to look like something I think ^^
mcreation Yea, totally. The red was rather off putting. Thanks for the crit.
I'm a big fan of sci-fi so I gave it ago. Queen of hearts.
Haven't managed to work on this as much as I wanted. Let's see if I can finish it this afternoon lol.
Update, should be working, arrgh!
Thanks for comments.
Renart, you can use either cliping masks, (google search) , or selection tools, to select an area, (lasso, poligonal lasso) and fill with gradient or solid color on a new layer.
if you use shortcuts it is really easy "L" for lasso, "SHIFT+L" for changing between lasso, and poligonal lasso; "ALT+backspace" fills the selection with foreground color, ans "CTRL+BACKSPACE" with background colour.
another way is if the linework is closed the "WAND TOOL" or "QUICK SELECTION" works wonderfull too
Queen of hearts
Here is my version of the Red Queen.
The Queen of Hearts is not so much named after her glorious Title , but rather the manner of her assassination which left a symbol that the scribes found to be the ominous symbol of her Royal end.
