Miscellaneous Sketches
Hi ,everybody!
I'm new here, but have been posting on Deviant art for sometime. I'm a an amateur art lover, who sketches a drawing, or an illustration using whatever tool is on hand, whenever i feel like it.
I have been advised by a DA member to checkout this great community, and so i stumbled upon you guys, and WOW do i feel like home here!
Looking at the level of skill and talent showcased here, i feel humbled.. yet, i look forward to learn more, be inspired, and hopefully hone my skills and raw talent.
Here are some of my sketches:

Nice work so far, the mountains done in pen in the last post are great.

Hi there, and welcome!
I especially like the last two drawings in your most recent entry, the pen mountains and the pastel landscape. Are these from life or photographs?
-
thanks! neither, actually, both are imaginative sketches.

Nice paintings/drawings! I would love to see some more. And perhaps something besides landscapes :)
-
The first and the last pen drawings are my faves. Would like to see more of you, and also different subjects ;-)
-
I'll try to do some portraits...Though i haven't done so for quite some time. Thanks alot Johan :)
-
Thanks, Xnatje! I, too, prefer those sketches.. I believe that you tend to appreciate sketches more than other types of art, as being a skilful sketcher yourself.
-
nice start to your sb! your traditional work looks pretty good but your digitals seem to fall behind a bit maybe you could do some more digital studies. anyways keep posting!
-
The hatching and pen really stand out here. Perhaps try to put that style into the digital aspects. Colouring under the lineart and such :)
-
Interestimg landscapes, if enviroments are your thing maybe u shud try experenting with colour, mayb do a bit of impressionism?
-
Thank you, Kevin. I've yet to buy my first tablet. What you see is painted using a mouse. You are right, i have to work on my digital art studies.
-
Thanks, Jangmai!
True, I need to capitalize on my hatching skills by improving digital art.
-
Thank you Marco! I'am trying to discover the possibilities here. Thanks for your advices/ suggestions.

I like your tree studies, they're very convincing. Good work all around, keep em coming!

Thanks, Xamllew! I've seen your "neck of the woods", and i was impressed. My profession isn't related to art, and i've been sketching on and off for many years, which shows in some of my poor studies. I have some major catch up to do! I'm almost 34 yrs now :)
Thanks for commenting, and all the best to you.

Hey dude, cool pen studies, I also like that oil pastel drawing, do more of those. As far as your figures and tree studies go, I would suggest 'loosening up' a little...dont be afraid to draw through. They come off as being stiff because it seems like you're trying to make it perfect on the first stroke. Now theres something to be said about strong line economy but in my opinion if it comes at the loss of life (gesture) and structure in the drawing then its not worth it. Try giving the trees a personality based on the kind of mood or energy they are giving off, or how they make you feel. Take a look at sketches by Luc Desmarchelier for examples. Anyway I hope that makes sense. Keep at it and good luck.

Thanks for the advice, sprogis7, much appreciated. I'll try to let loose my pen while sketching, and be bolder with lines.
You have such a beautiful sketchbook btw!

Anyway, thanks for your reply!
