kungfoowiz: I think that a lot of the stiffness can be attributed to the lack of flexibility in that armor. thanks
zelda_geek: Naa never too harsh, I wish there were more comments like this :) I think if there's any reasoning for the lack of contrast, it's because I painted it very overcast so I didn't think there was much to reflect. Definitely get what you mean though, I was struggling with the light source in the picture to start with too. Thanks for the comments!
A couple more armor studies. These were.. not really faster, but easier?
quickie self portrait different method, but I look a lot older:
About 5 hours? I just got really tired of it and wasn't feeling the carpet pattern.
fukkking sick study!i just went through page1 through 9, lol amazing work. how long did it take you to finish the armor studies?
kimozabbi: Thanks! I'd say the ones on this page were about 2 hours each.
Ahh it's been a week of summer vacation and I've barely done anything..
Even though it's not really obvious, really struggled with proportions on this one. and face obviously. :(
nice improvement from first page to last, keep up the studies and the good work!
Eightball_: Thanks man!
loooong due imagination piece. not 100% happy with it but I think I'll stop here. I'm just glad I was able to get something from my head. originally for the alice chow, but then took too long.. ahh i need to plan better, like seperating the figure from the background layer :P.
still life :( why are you so difficult..
probably abused the blur here
and some arms from bridgman from a week or so ago.
don't be to hard on your self ha ha. dude i always love the armour so cool and shiny!
Jeremy Swan: Haha thanks man :P
environment studies! feeling a bit uninspired after doing these, hopefully its just me being tired. :)
the canyons are vibrant in color :3 i love how you incorporated different textures so i'd say it was a successful study with learning both color/texture. how long did they take?
teapo: The top one was 2 hours, the 2nd one was about 3-4? Haha well not really textures, just the round brush in ps and lasso tool.
speedpaint from imagination to apply canyon studies from yesterday.
photo study, messed up on the colors.. and the :(
Moving right along with this improvement huh? You're doing so well that I can't wait to see this sketchbook in a year from now;
I have a feeling it won't even look like the same person. Keep up the great work : D
getting tons better man! :D just remember to keep doing things from imagination, otherwise all these studies will be pointless D:
keep up the hard work!
So I got some downloads from the sale going on.. I didn't think they would help this much. But after watching Jason Chan's thunderdome one, I felt super inspired. AND it made me realize there was a hardness slider on the brush menu. Seriously wtf, how did I not notice that. It's such a useful adjustment tool.
Anyway, I thought this CHOW was a lost cause at first but after watching the download I got pumped to do stuff and pushed this out. I think it's my best piece I've done so far. Saving my other downloads for when the inspiration runs a little drier.
The Beastmaster (penguins lol)
all from imagination (after some research sketches, posted below)
character sheet+silhouettes+couple research sketches.
I completely forgot about the front/back thing for this so it was actually done after I completed the illustration. Kind of defeats the purpose but yeah, just rushed it.
Pen sketches from life (maybe I'll try doing these daily?)
summer assignment for school, and I actually found it quite useful. messed it up a bit but eh, maybe I'll try again.
from life w/ pen
photo study.. Next time I'll try using Hannes' methods with lasso and stuff, and definitely not do the plane all on one layer haha.
Hey bro =)
I'm happy you had fun with the Chow picture =) It looks qwl and you seem happy it's your best piece so far =) Hope you don't mind my paint over.. =) Tried to add some drama to the character =) Just embellished her.. not sure what you think.. but hope it helps or gives you some ideas.. =) Okay.. good luck with your next studies bro, keep well for now =)
kungfoowiz: haha looks tight man :)
another plane study.. tried to do one from imagination but I failed. I need to pay better attention, more tomorrow!
Wanderer: thank you
So I had a bit of a mini-slump but I got over it.
I think I was just over doing the planes, so I'll probably stop with them after this for awhile.
trying to understand the anatomy of them? and focusing just on lines over rendering.
didn't help here because I practically ignored/forgot everything when doing this haha. (from imagination)
and i need to draw more from life. I always tell myself this but end up regressing to photos
i left and the light changed before i could really push this one
Awesome studies, keep it up man. Love your characters too, hope to see more of them! <3
xD I thought you were viet. Have fun in Hong Kong :D
Dude, your progress is awesome. I think I'll be making a folder for you soon!
Keep up the great work, and more paintings from imagination!
Awesome work bro, can definitely see nice changes in your observation, those HK sketches really helped I thinki =) The one chair looks a bit Jean inspired too, haha, awesome stuff! =) Keep PUSHING maaaan, you're going somewhere! =)
kungfoowiz: thanks for the constant support! Haha yeah maybe, actually maybe more Wes Burt too.
I really love the life drawings. Well done.
