creature of the week - SPACEMAN SPIFF! ! ! im ridiculously busy with school and mid term exams, but there was no way in hell id pass up the oppurtunity to draw one of my favorites! i totally grew up on Calvin and Hobbes. Bill Watterson has been one of my biggest influences since i was a kid. him and shel silverstein and dr.suess. they never left my side as a kid haha. even though i may not be able to enter in the challenge, unless i can toss some color on it, but here it is anyways!
Your latest illustration puts me in the world of a H.P lovecraftian era
would hate to be devoured by that beast
keep having fun learning and exploring worlds
till next time
I love the Dune Emperor sketch
the joker sketch is awesome
Jamie Romoser - thanks a bunch man! i will keep them coming! thanks!!
asa - thank you!! glad you like them!
half head study, half my own game character... i need to do 3 more versions though, these will be the heath indicator of the character, the next three will get progressively more effed up looking.... like street fighter 2 continue screens.. ha
You got that character portrait really nice mate. Sometime with some big soft brush [with low opacity or very low flow] try to do some quick overlaying brushstroke on the places where the light hits the objects. That will unify the form and the colors there and also will enchance the space. [as a color pick the lightsource color]
keep up :)
kingkostas - i know exactly what your saying, in fact i was planning on doing just that, but was too lazy to do it before i posted ha, but thanks man, for dropping by, and for the input!

Hahaha, the X-Men thingie is cooooool. I think it would help the comp if his right arm isn't touching the left border though.

cedule - you love my sketchbook? i love you.
quick update on that head.
EDIT : ill post the old one too so you can see the difference better... otherwise it doesnt look like i did a thing...
aaaaand version one of the 'beaten to shit' character. these are going to be the health bar notifiers in the game... it will all make sense one day i promise.... (not really)
Hahhaaha, my bad. The new version is much much better. Great gesture and form. Those drawings of faces are awesome.
For the new portrait, I think you could change the mouth a bit. The form of the lower lip tend to be a lot rounder, so the highlight would be closer to the center of the form and the top of the the lower lip tends to be pretty dark, that is, if the light source is above and in front of the person. Also, there would probably be a cast shadow too. Ahhh, just a nit pick.
Edit:Holy shit, a new post right when I was typing!
Nice work, the new version of the Chow is a lot better I think, gesture is cool and the figure is looking really solid. Good stuff!
Aaron_ - thanks dude! haha yea that lighting was loosely based off of a 3D model's lighting. so its not perfect. but i feel like im getting more comfortable with painting heads and faces, at least from certain angles/lighting conditions. but more studying is on the way! haha yea... ive been posting alot today/yesterday...
Gadbury - many thanks Gadbury! i was just going through your sketchbook today, you have some amazing works man!
this is just some random thing ive been staring at for the last few hours... it actually was a few things before evolving into this thing. but nothing was referenced in this one, im just trying to find a faster method for rendering. and trying to better understand light and forms from my imagination.
