Xeon_OND started a thread Cinema 4D? in ART DlSCUSSION
Hi all, I'm looking to pick up a 3D modeling software, and from what I've read, Cinema 4D seems to be easier to learn for beginners than 3DsMax...

    thanx alot, i'll keep practicing.
  2. Hi!

    See this:

You're in the right direction in terms of the flow. There's still some contour lines in the torso area in your gesture, but that will slowly be cured when you're used to this kind of drawing.

In your gesture, the lines in the legs don't flow into each other. Compare this with the one I drew over. The line that symbolizes the thigh flows into the lower leg. In yours, the leg lines go straight down without alternating into each other.

Also, your gesture is off in terms of pose. In the photo, the woman is bent forward a lot further. But proportions + accuracy can be trained after the feeling of flow is gotten.

Best way to practice is to do 120 - 250 gestures every day for 5 months. That's when you'll understand how this flow works. Check out this guy Hayden Zammit's recent gestures. They're a vast leap from when he first started out and soon, I'll need him to teach me figure drawing.

    Good day!

Thanks for the reply, i knew you'll say that. I could "feel" most of the lines, i just wasn't getting those. I guess i was impatient. Thank you for your help.
  5. Hi! There are no "fixed" lines of action. In addition, the number of lines and position of lines etc. all vary with the pose. This gesture drawing is about "feel" rather than mathematical formulas or numbers. In fact, all the lines you see on that drawing are the lines of action. As Sheldon Borenstein, a student of Vilppu says in his video, "There is no line of action. There are lineS of action."

Just keep drawing; you'll eventually "feel" it and when you do, you'll find the answer to your own question!

Good day sir and thank you for the explanation on Villipu's method of feeling the action of the poses, i found it really helpful but i have a question, there are 4 lines of action i cant seem to understand why you placed them there. Here is the picture

    and here is the original

    Thank you
  7. There's where you be wrong, Diarum! Read the most recent post here:

There you go! And btw, your line confidence has jumped to a whole new level! I'm amazed! This is what hard practice can give you! Draw like you're now!

Thanks for your input. I note that the Sheldon stuff can only be sent in hard copy (and very expensive too - I'm in the UK btw); whereas the Vilppu stuff can be sent electronically.

Sorry to trouble you but I have just stumbled onto this forum while googling for Vilppu.
I have seen some of Vilppu's stuff and it looks impressive, but the stuff on Sheldon's site seems to be very specific about how to approach the tasks (e.g. tracing, which I would never have thought of).
Can you give a quick +/- of each since you seem to have bought both? - I was especially taken by the sample of Sheldon's books. The stuff is not cheap and of course I can end up spending a fortune.
    Thanks for your help.
