Ah I need money to get Digital tools, at the moment I'm just doing stuff in Traditional materials. (I haven't even got a a laptop yet.) With me branching out to Oils, as opposed to my constant overuse of Watercolour.

    How's the Intuos 4 anyway?

It's refreshing to read an uncycnical view on the whole matter, usually whenever you read accounts of Art education on here there's always a resounding feeling of crushing disappointment. (Even if they're being positive about a course) Though traditional skills is something I'm currently trying to improve on, by going to private tuition sessions. How've you improved your work, in terms of technical skills?

The key reason I want to learn these skills, is for variety. I personally have no interest whatsoever in drawing ultra-realistically, or being a Concept Artist, I'm more for storytelling (comics in other words) and possibly illustrations for adverts.

Good luck with it, I'll have a look at it when you start it.

Anyway the best of luck, if there's one way to set yourself up on here it's starting a sketch book thread and dumping your work on there for prying eyes to see.

Oh it was back in November (I think the open day was the 6th), we spent fucking ages watching a demonstration for the Graphics course before only two prospective Illustration student (that number includes me) were whisked away to the second floor. I did like what I saw, and I was planning for 2 years before hand to go to Cardiff. (As I really wanted to go to a city) But during this year (my Foundation year) I found myself prefering Loughborough, even though it's only a small town the Uni's got a pretty good reputation. (Which sold it to me) Plus I can always move to a city afterward. (Though I do kind of regret missing out on living in Cardiff)

Yeah alot of Illustration courses try to break away from just a straight-forward approach it seems. Though how is your course in terms of teaching you traditional drawing techniques? (As all across this site you'll hear people complaining about the teaching in Art Schools only concentrating on theory and ideas)
  4. Ahh right I see mate. You must have walked into one of our lectures then! When was this? Such a small world too. Wish you all the best with Loughborough bud, I'm so glad now that I chose UWIC I wouldn't go anywhere else :p On average there was about 30 students when we first signed up this year was a little more. We're not so much being exclusive, just trying to push away the traditional image that 'it's just drawing' if you know what I mean.

Well I'm not sure if it's 100% true, but when I went to an open day at UWIC back in November I was told (by a Graphics professor) that Cardiff based their set-up on Loughborough's illustration course. (In that it's trying to be exclusive; as Loughborough had 33 places last year and this year it was 40. Though I'm not sure the average number of undergraduate students in a illustration course, across the country.) The first years weren't there (on a London trip), but we did walk in on the second year's lecture.
